    Sluice box

We visited Great Falls to be with friends for a special occasion. On the way back we treated ourselves to a state park I have always wanted to visit. It did not disappoint. After chatting with a park ranger we discovered that no one knows if bicycles are allowed and most importantly why one would even want to ride one here. And we discovered why. Multiple river crossings prompted us to do the unofficial trail to the bottom of the canyon. We rambled along all day in amazement in ever bend. What a great chunk of land. Even though riding my bike where we walked would of been freaking amazing.

    WNA #2 – Mystic Ride

So many things get in the way. But you must fight. And we fought back to life’s busyness with another installation of the Wednesday Night Adventure series and busted out the Mystic Lake Cabin Ride. It rained of course and we got out late. But we did it. Take that life!

The rewards for a rainy vacation

My big block of vacation time came to an end with a sunny day. And what better to happen but to stumble upon the ride of the year. An obscure little loop called Brownback Gulch. Fantastic downhill through the pine and aspens. Even my partner was ripping the downhill. And it all started with a big batch of bacon. Now that is the way to end a vacation from the salt mines.

What to do on rainy days

We had a block of days off available to us. We had planned to attack the Lewis and Clark National Forest and plan our adventures from base camp. But on the day we were supposed to put up our camp we did found numerous campgrounds. But it was raining and we didn’t feel like getting out of our vehicle to put up camp. We drove around a bit and finally decided to just stop off and do the tourist thing. We stopped off at Memorial Falls. Checked out said falls, put in a good 3 mile hike, and then decided to drive home. That’s what we did on a rainy day.

What to do the day after a rainy day

Continuing on from the previous blog post. We woke up to a nice and although not really sunny, better day. It was cloudy but looked like there were areas on the horizon that were possibly better. To the West is a mountain range called The Tobacco Roots. It didn’t look that bad over there so we decided let’s go. So we packed the car and headed out. We found a great campsite and use the Ford Focus wagon to go off roading for just about 300 feet to get to the perfect spot.

The next day we took off on an adventure via mountain bike. We went as far as we could up each trail but eventually found snow. And at the end of the day it started to rain and we went back to camp. And fell asleep to the raindrops pitter pattering on top of our roof.

This is what we did on the day after a rainy day.

    My Morning Commute

I have not biked to work for two weeks. I am on a protocol to fix some issues and I need to let my body rest. But next week I hope for things to get more fun. Like riding my bike to work again. Even though it will be the “short way”.

    WNA #1 – Leverich

Wednesday Night Adventure. The premier weekly adventure series has started in Bozeman Montana.  Starting out with a mountain bike ride, what else, we were met with nice temperatures and blossoming flowers. First up is the Leverich ride. We were 2 riders strong but the numbers of riders we met on the mountain were numerous. At one point I got into a climb fest with a rider that THOUGHT he would just pass us. I tore off and beat him up the hill. Got to do that once in a while.  Want on the ride announcement? Email me (hint : Contact Page). My goal is to take more photos next time. I was so in shock to be riding again I forgot this time.

    Next Week: 6p @ Sourdough …o/o

  • Packing up

image I can’t sleep. Its a personal thing I have going on. Anybody knows me they know something’s going on. So why not make the most of this morning. Packing the fat bikes up for this weekend’s adventure. There’s a cabin rented and it’s supposed to rain all weekend so nothing better to do than to fat bike through the weather and make it to this cabin high in the mountains. And then relax.

Both my buddies have jobs in town and I never see them any longer. These days life is way too busy. I have been trying to talk them into striking out on their own. Start something new. Maybe vagabonding. With me of course. ~Mr bear

What to do? It is July and your partner works in Yellowstone Park. And … of course your sick of the park. What to do. Well there is Beartooth Pass!

  • Calf creek

    Calf creek

Here I am in calf creek cabin. The sun just came out after wicked little rain storm. I did two rides today. One up calf creek trail. The other up towards the tender foot. In both cases I ran into snow.

Now I’m sitting here in this beautiful cabin and nothing to do. I had dinner, sausages and planting chips, but now I find myself wanting to play cards. Or go for a lonely walk. Register the beauty outside. Maybe over the ridge to look for animals.

This is the first time I have come to any cabin all by myself. My partners out of town visiting family and I thought why not go out on a big adventure. I just really wanted to bike pack here. it’s 100 miles from my front door. But then I read about how they close the gate for the winter and what happens if I run into snow? No way I’d walk 8 miles after a 80 mile ride.

Well there was no locked gate and I was able to drive all the way the cabin. So I did two rides from here.

I sit here writing this blog. The stove is going and it’s warm. It’s too early to go to bed. And now the blog is done. Now what? Guees i will have to get up tomorrow and do some more adventure.

  • Beartrap

    Beartrap

Yesterday, we decided to embark on what I’d call an epic adventure. Remember, it’s been practically summer here, unless you decide to venture up the mountains. So, in my infinite wisdom, I figured, “Why not keep the summer vibes rolling?” and planned a 6-hour escapade, aiming to cover about 15 miles, steering clear of any snowy mishaps. Because, honestly, who wants to trade flip-flops for snow boots in March? Our daring spirit paid off big time when we found ourselves on the banks of the Madison River, right smack in the heart of Beartrap Canyon.

  • Spring Adventure

    Spring Adventure

Suddenly summer is a reality. Winter, where did it go? Even the mud is drying up. This and other realizations bring us to this week when the daylight savings time thingy expired. And now there is more light.

Spring fever season is upon us and with it brings outdoor adventures.

On this day in history, ‘Hey Zeph! Want an Action Wipe?‘ I asked, after cleaning the blood from my shin.

    Lucy and Buck

From 1803-1806, in an exciting journey to the Pacific Ocean and back, Lucy and Buck’s Corps of Discovery mapped the lands, described the natural wonders, and encountered the people of western North America.

But, as Bill Martin wrote on his blog, “If not for the . . . epic the captains scratched out while crouching on hillsides and squatting on riverbanks, we might not remember Lucy and Buck at all.”
