    Did 2 Races This Weekend

Double the races, double the adrenaline, double the… lack of internet? Yep, that’s my life right now. Just conquered two epic races this weekend, and you can relive the glory (and maybe some tire-shredding moments) on my racing page. Fair warning, though: you’ll have to navigate the “journal” section like a skilled explorer – the internet gods haven’t blessed me with online superpowers yet.

Speaking of blessings, my apartment finally has cable! Unfortunately, the world wide web is still playing hard to get. So, brace yourselves for another week of radio silence from yours truly. Best case scenario, I’ll be back online soon, sharing race stories and questionable post-race selfies. Wish me luck (and maybe send some carrier pigeons my way with internet access instructions).

Today’s agenda? Rest, glorious rest (a racer’s gotta refuel, right?). Then, it’s grocery hustle and the never-ending laundry battle. But hey, even offline adventures have their charm. Who knows, maybe I’ll stumble upon a hidden gem bookstore or discover the joy of analog board games (gasp!).

Until then, take care everyone! And when I finally resurface into the digital world, get ready for a whirlwind of race recaps, offline discoveries, and maybe even a haiku about the joys of clean laundry (don’t judge, it’s the little things in life!).

Spokes, Dough, and Dreams Blending into an Unraveled Wednesday

Yesterday was a bit of a rollercoaster, not gonna lie. April 4th, 2002, should’ve been just another Wednesday, but nope, the universe had other plans. For starters, work was a beast. I was pushing so hard, trying to be productive, but let’s just say my to-do list laughed in my face. You can catch the full saga on my bike journal page, where I lament and ponder the mysteries of motivation. But hey, every cloud has its silver lining, right? My Starbucks escape was the highlight of my day. Picture this: me, a toll house cookie, and a cup of Joe—bliss amidst chaos. Back home, the apartment’s cozy as ever, though Marcy (the furball) is hinting she’s overdue for a spa day. And me? I’m seriously craving a slice of pizza. Is it too much to ask?

Now, onto my two-wheeled adventures. I stumbled upon a gem today—North Haven Bike. They’ve got the free-hub my bike’s been crying out for, so guess where I’m headed tonight? Yep, fingers crossed, folks. Check their website out; it’s pretty cool. And in the midst of all this, life’s soap opera continues. My ex seems to have taken a digital stroll through my website. Oh, the plot thickens! The thought of possibly reconnecting with my daughter someday? That’s the dream. It’s why I slogged through school. But, man, juggling child support on top of Connecticut’s cost of living and the mountain of debt from my college escapades? It’s a wild ride. Anyway, off to the store I go—maybe they’ll have pizza.

  • I am 36: No Internet or TV

I am 36: No Internet or TV

All is well on my end, just battling a bit of a cold. I’m still waiting on getting internet and TV set up at my place – no luck yet, but my landlady finally agreed to let us have it installed. In the meantime, you can catch up on all my biking adventures by visiting my mountain biking blog/website. Just check the journal section for the latest news on my racing. Can’t wait to get fully settled in and share more updates with you all!

  • Internet-Less in New Haven

Yea, yea, I know. Where did I go. I still dont have Internet service, so Ill be gone for a little while longer. Our land-lady is stalling the installation of cables to our building. I do want to note that I have a breath taking view of the sunrise from my room in the mornings. The sun comes up through the skyscrapers of New Haven. Astonishing!

    Some Past Blogs:

Friday: I am finally fully moved. Pat and I were able to scrounge up some friends to help and we rented a U-Haul. After two trips, we were done by noon. I have worked the rest of the day unpacking and situating. I am finally done with the major part of

  • Moving

    Moving

Ah, the joys of moving – it’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get. For all the lovely folks I’ve been chatting with, quick update from your neighborhood chaos coordinator: scratch that previous address I gave you. My new digs are not at 647 Forest Road in New Haven. Nope, we’re taking a slight detour to:

    647 Forest Rd
    West Haven, CT
    06516-7929, US

Yep, you heard it right. Same numbers, different town. It’s like the universe’s way of saying, “Gotcha!” So, if you were planning to send me housewarming gifts (or a pizza, which, let’s be honest, is the best kind of housewarming gift), make sure it lands in West Haven, not New Haven. Trust me, you don’t want your carefully selected succulents ending up in someone else’s living room.

    On Edge, New Phone Operational

Ah, revenge. It’s like grabbing a quick bite of comfort food—feels good for a moment, but it doesn’t really fill you up in the long run. Lasting peace comes from dealing with our own tangled emotions, not just pinning a “bad guy” label on someone else.

Took a moment to spill some thoughts on my blog, especially since I’ve declared this week a much-needed chill session. My patience was running thinner than my old t-shirt, signaling I’ve been pushing too hard. Managed to set up my new phone and caught up with family and friends, sharing stories during a hike at Sleeping Giant (http://www.sgpa.org/).

The weather’s been on the gloomy side lately, with a steady drumbeat of rain. They say it’s necessary, though.

Heads-up from Ed Smith: there’s a NORBA race at Beartown in Plattsburgh on September 15th. Unless I’m somehow leading the New England Championship Series (big “if” there!), I’ll be cheering from the sidelines.

With moving day looming, it’s time to make those adult calls to utility companies. Hope everyone’s having a great day!

    Mountain Bike Site News

Hey, riders! Just a heads-up—I squeezed in some updates on the site before my internet went kaput. Still working out the kinks for a new connection at my new place, so expect a bit of a rocky ride online.

But don’t worry, I’m not going off the grid. Got a new phone number, and if you need to reach me, just drop an email.

Stay tuned for more updates, tips, and stories once I navigate this digital wilderness. Keep riding and stay safe out there!

  • Spiritual Mountain Biking Place

    Spiritual Mountain Biking Place

Oh, sounds like you’ve hit a bit of a snag with the site, huh? But hey, moving’s got its own kinda chaos, doesn’t it? And Gilford, CT – that place you’ve pegged as your spiritual biking nirvana? Must be something special if it’s leaving you lost for words! I can almost picture the trails, winding and beckoning, each turn promising another slice of serenity.

Once you’re all settled and the internet’s back in your life, getting that site up will be a game-changer. Imagine, a digital haven where all your biking adventures, those journal entries pulsing with your passion for the pedal, find a home. Can’t wait to see it, really. And hanging out there, virtually biking alongside ya? Count me in! Here’s to hoping Monday’s the charm for wrapping it up. Keep that biking spirit alive!

  • Quacks in Arizona

    Quacks in Arizona

Morning, folks! Today’s news is quackers, literally. Mom’s surgery got the ax, and now I’m on a mission to quack that doctor like a duck detective. Not the best news, but hey, gotta roll with the punches, right?

Mom and dad visited me and we checked out Lake Placid.

Speaking of rolling, yesterday I became one with my road bike for three glorious hours. Explored some pretty sweet backcountry in CT, gotta say, this state hides some hidden gems! Oh, and my trusty four-wheeled steed got its 20k service, purring like a kitten now.

But hold your horses (or ducks?), the real highlight of the day? Free. Friday. Bagels. Need I say more? Catch y’all later, gotta fuel up before quacking down on that doctor situation. C U!

  • Hypothermia Visited

    Hypothermia Visited

Yesterday it rained. It started out snow but turned out to be an absolute downpour. The problem is that I was out there on my road bike doing some big ring climbs. By the time I had descended into town I was absolutely frozen. My core temperature was way down. When I got into the shower I could feel the warmth outside my skin while the inside was cooling down the water. Damn cold! Today the sun is out and I am taking a half-day off to go riding.

In car news, my new car goes in today for its 20,000 tune-up. Boy how miles fly by! This summer I will put tons of miles on the beast. Not as much as if I lived in Plattsburgh because now I am right here in the thick of the entire racing scene.

  • Nice Quote

    Nice Quote

A co-worker sent me a quote. So here it is: If the Great Spirit had desired me to be a white man he would have made me so in the first place. He put in your heart certain wishes and plans; in my heart he put other and different desires. Each man is good in the sight of the Great Spirit. It is not necessary for eagles to be crows.” Sitting Bull [Teton Sioux]

Yesterday I rested. Today I ride. I am on the bike for 2 hours tonight, easy stuff. I feel pretty good and the decision to just go home after work and take a nap paid off. I feel well rested and ready to go. The most important thing also is that my body is now processing energy better and my body fat is going down as planned. I have really filled up my race calendar and I promise to post it as soon as I get a chance. I have been so busy biking and getting ready to move.

The move will take place on Good Friday and I don’t know if I will be online or even have a phone after that. I will try to keep this site posted. Something I have neglected recently. It is spring … time to be outside.

At least I think it is spring. There is snow outside today, freaking everyone out. Oh well, cant hold back spring, it is on the way.

  • Fatigued Bushed Frazzled

    Fatigued Bushed Frazzled

Well, today feels like I’ve been run over by a truck – I’m all shades of exhausted, battling a headache that’s stubbornly planting its flag in my brain. This is probably the universe’s way of telling me I overdid it with my bike marathon over the weekend. But, boy, was it worth it! The cherry on top was breaking in my new racing bike. It’s a sleek Trek OCLV frame that I Frankenstein-ed together with bits and bobs from my old rides. It was touch-and-go for a bit there, and I’ve got a laundry list of upgrades to tackle, starting with the drivetrain. And let’s not forget the headache which might have a guest appearance courtesy of the solvent fumes I inhaled while playing mad scientist with my bike parts – that little adventure stole my entire weekend.

Now, to add another layer to my cake of chaos, I’m in the throes of moving. Today’s the big day for locking down my new digs, and I’m eyeing to shuffle my life over there by Good Friday. The moving fun includes the joy of address changes, utility swaps, and a mountain of other mind-numbing tasks. So, it looks like my weekend is shaping up to be anything but restful.

But for the moment, my game plan is as simple as it gets: rest, rest, and did I mention rest?

  • Busy Day

    Busy Day

Heyo, folks! Looks like my online time might be a bit spotty today – I’ve got a couple of honkin’ big projects on my plate. First up, I gotta get my trusty mountain bike all tuned up and ready to shred for the upcoming race season. You know how it is, those two-wheeled beasts need some serious TLC if you want ’em performing at their peak. I’m talking a full-on spa day here, folks – drivetrain overhaul, brake bleed, you name it. Can’t let the other riders’ rides look better than mine out on the trails, am I right?

Speaking of trails, once I’m done pampering my cycling companion, I absolutely must get out there and log some miles. A man’s gotta stay in shape. Plus, there’s nothing quite like cruising through the woods, leaves crunching underfoot (or under-tire, I suppose), that fresh piney scent filling your lungs. Sheer bliss, I tell ya.

But wait, there’s more! I’ve also gotta swing by this new place I’m checking out and do the whole…”sniff around and mark my territory” routine, if you catch my drift. Can’t reveal too many deets just yet, but let’s just say it could be the start of a wild new adventure for yours truly.

Anyway, enough rambling from me. I’ll do my darndest to pop online and give y’all some updates when I can. No promises, though – this day’s looking like a doozy! Wish me luck, and keep those wheels (or whatever body parts you use to get around) spinning, my friends!

  • Metamorphasis

    Metamorphasis

Hey there! Just spruced up my webpage a bit more. Chipped away at it and got the first two buttons (aka the sub-sites) polished off. Might dive back into it this weekend, post mountain bike resurrection. It’s not brand new, just blessed with a fresh derailleur and a frame that’s seen the warranty gods. Hit up the racing link at the top of this page to see what I mean.

Lately, the sandman’s been dodging me. Last night, my brain decided to throw a throwback party, dredging up the weirdest old memories. Like, remember Scotty, my dog? Poor fella darted into the street one day and… yeah, didn’t end well. It hit me hard last night, remembered every little detail. Must be morphing back into my cyclist form – tingles and all. Shedding pounds and sleep, thanks to a mix of excitement and the whole moving saga.

Big scoop – New Haven might be my next base camp. Keeping fingers crossed that my application cuts the mustard. Looks like Pat Lannon and I will be shacking up again, saving a cool 600 bucks a month compared to our last crib. Maps and snaps to come.

On the training front, tackled the trails for a solid 2.5 hours last night. Totally wiped afterwards and nursing some battle scars today. But now, it’s off to the grindstone. Make today count!

    Mom Bulletin

Tonight’s tidbit: Starving. The mountain bike’s eating into my schedule, but that site update’s on the horizon. Just heard from mom – Randy and Tami are in town from Wyoming, living it up. Mom’s gearing up for surgery Monday. How about we flood her inbox with some cyber cheer?

  • Monday Chores

    Monday Chores

Ah, Mondays. They sneak up on us like a cat on a mission to spill your coffee, don’t they? Especially after a weekend that zipped by so fast, you’d swear it was trying to set a new land speed record. So here I am, lumbering into the new week, yet there’s this little spark of anticipation for what lies ahead, like finding an unexpected onion ring in your fries.

I’ve just spruced up my schedule on the ol’ web (sneak a peek right here: schedule). It’s sort of my way of saying, “Hey, I’m trying to keep you in the loop here!” because, honestly, trying to follow my day-to-day is like trying to thread a needle while riding a rollercoaster – thrilling but slightly hazardous.

And for my next act? I’ll be plunging headfirst into the digital abyss to breathe some life into our new mountain bike page. Imagine me, decked out with nothing but a sense of bravado and a cup of coffee that’s seen better days, squaring off against the wilds of web design. It’s shaping up to be a showdown worthy of an old western, minus the tumbleweeds and with more pixels.

Keep those eyes peeled, my fellow adventurers and internet wanderers. If fortune smiles upon us, we’ll soon have a spiffy new page to ogle at. And if not, hey, Tuesday’s just around the corner, ready to give us a do-over.

  • Supply Ponds MTB

    Supply Ponds MTB

Today was definitely one for the books, kind of like an “Indiana Jones” escapade but with less snakes and more mechanical betrayals. Imagine the scene: just me, my trusty steed (aka my bike), and the irresistible charm of the Supply Ponds. The game plan was as simple as my grandma’s apple pie recipe—pedal around, soak up the great outdoors, and rinse and repeat until sundown. However, the universe, with its infamous sense of humor, decided to spice things up. About halfway into my adventure, my bike’s derailer pitched a fit and gave up the ghost, forcing me to go old school and single speed my way back to civilization (or at least to where I parked my car). It turned out to be quite the impromptu thigh burner!

But wait, there’s more. Just when I thought my day had peaked, I plunged into jazzing up my mountain bike blog. It’s my little corner of the internet where I share tales of triumph and, well, mechanical mutinies like today’s. Signing off now, with legs that feel like jelly and a heart that’s surprisingly content, I’ve gotta laugh at the sheer unpredictability of it all. Nighty-night, universe! Here’s raising a glass to the wild, wonderful whirlwind that is embracing the great unknown of the great outdoors.

On this day in history, ‘Hey Zeph! Want an Action Wipe?‘ I asked, after cleaning the blood from my shin.

    Great Training Weather

Good morning world! It has been great weather here although it has been cold. I have taken two days off to recover from last weeks training. I seem to be on track to have a great season.

Yesterday I worked a little on the new upcoming mountain bike page to replace the old racing page here at williammartin.com.
