Mass Ride

I’m up early for a fun ride in Massachusetts, part of a club I joined last summer. I’m hoping to forge new friendships and meet fellow dirt freaks. With the temperature at a chilly 25 degrees, it’s going to be a cold ride. Later, I plan to catch up on my finances and see if I can book airline tickets to Arizona. But for now, it’s off to the ride. -
Group Ride Last Sunday

“This weekend’s ride was very cold. When I returned to the car after a nice three-hour ride, my toes were numb. They came back to me in the car, ouch! The ride was nice, although there was too much socializing for me. There was some singletrack, but mostly doubletrack. After the ride, we all met at a soup cafe in Amherst, MA. I had the chili and cornbread. Yummmm!

Another Screwing by Sikorsky
It”s not a big thing, actually it is a small one. But all the little things add up to one big screwing. It’s vent time ladies and gentleman and here is the latest installment. I just received an e-mail from the powers that be that reminds us (like we are children in need of reminding) that Since the day after New Years falls on a Friday we are expected to report to work for 8 hours.
We are not to take a sick day or our benefits will be held back. If we do not want to come in for one unproductive day then we must take a vacation day.
Sikorsky knows full damn well that everyone will spend one of their vacation days so they regain that cost in trade for another day which will be more productive.
Me, I”m coming in, to screw off for 8 hours! So don”t say Happy Holidays to me just say Happy Holiday!

Post Run Thoughts
Today's run was fantastic. I did spend a lot of time cleaning up the trails because of a big wind storm last night. After the run Marcy and I stopped at McDonald's for some B_Fast. I don't know what I am going to do this weekend. I guess I should plan on that Yankee Peddler Mountain Bike Ride. I need to get out and ride with the group. Its been a while. I think for Thanksgiving I will be going to Plattsburgh visiting friends. Today is also payday, Yahoo. I get to eat! I am hoping to buy plane tickets to Arizona tonight.
I want to welcome my sister Kathi to the Admin position here at williammartin . Com. She will be posting news from the Missouri chapter of the family. Please feel free to Comment on any story.

Lost In Blah Land
Hello everyone,
I just was reviewing a photo taken by Niko (Paul and Lucy’s son). He did a pretty great job—might even be better than his dad! Just kidding. Anyway, … lol.

On another note, I could use some words of inspiration. I’ve hit a bit of a slump. Haven’t worked out in two days and I’m feeling pretty lazy. Plus, I’m not getting much done in general; just going home and zoning out, and sleep’s been elusive.
I know I’m not helpless. It’s just this faulty thinking that’s tripping me up. What am I waiting for, right? Someone to wave a magic wand and fix everything? That’s not going to happen.
Just some crazy thoughts. Actually, I’m hoping to shake this off with a backpacking overnighter in VT or NH this weekend.

Happy Birthday Melinda
Today it is my daughters birthday. Happy Birthday Melinda. A while back I asked the place I send my child support to give me their address. They replied that I couldn't have it. I asked Ronda on my site in a PM I believe about getting it. I think she ignored it.
I may be wrong and maybe she misunderstood. Anyway I talked to mom last night and she believes that she has their address. She was busy installing a carpet in their place and promised that she would email it as soon as she got it. I feel I am a bad father. I am a bad friend also as I don't send anyone birthday gifts or even cards. Maybe next year I'll work on that.
The weekend was relaxing and I have learned to chill out and stop panicking about everything. I talked to Monica, mom, and dad on the phone this weekend so I had good company. I talked to mom for 6.5 hours straight. We were going for a record. Their flooring project is going tough. They will preserver though.
I also chatted with my sister and she wants to put pictures on my site and use my site. I am excited to get her all set up in her new digs. I am going to call her tonight.
Last nights dreams were weird. All of them involving loved ones falling. Well it is off to work for another week.

Is PHP/MySQL The Way?
Well, my site got hacked last night, and to be honest, I’m questioning the future of my cool website. I’m faced with a decision – whether to switch to a different code base or stick with this old format. Right now, I’m going in to check if my databases are still intact and, if they are, to salvage some content.

For the time being, I’ll have to rely on this blogger platform, which I’ve used for a longer time than ever before. But it makes me wonder if using database and PHP code-based sites is a bad idea. Take this blogger, for example; it creates a permanent page that lives on the server. The only way to destroy this one is to gain access to my server and delete the files, which is nearly impossible.

Power of Anger
What, you are the only person I know in the whole world? I have no job, I sit at home taking notes, I have no life. I eat well and sleep well. I don’t stay up all night trying to figure out why a friend posts something on my site, it corrupts the data base, or so I thought, to only find out that they may just be entering bogus data. In fact, of course, I just mentioned that I sleep well. Of course (said it again), I am very selfish and only think and act on self fulfillment.
All that said, ok, Ill try! I wonder though, why your emails don’t send a continuation of previous emails like what you see below. It is only courteous to have such a thing when referring to it. If I were to delete it, then send a reply quite a bit later (making sure you may forget a few details), I could play with your mind and gain control of a certain niche in time. For then I would own something that no one has and could manipulate it however I wanted for my own self enjoyment (or empowerment … some control over fading life).
One cannot enjoy that which does not exists and only can exists when another creates it. One cannot create such things on their own, that is its major flaw. One … oops three ones’. But that’s not me, that’s too flawed, besides I am at a different level than you poor humans (keeping in mind that this is a flag for a mentally separated human, damn there I go again …).

Have you made it this far? I would of not given you the power … I would of quit and deleted this email. I must protect myself if you have. This is my space and you are not equipped. I will show you the door. Although it does get lonely at times, you must go. I am losing my power of anger and must go, Bye

Outraged Cyclists
Ah, the open road. A cyclist’s haven and, sadly, sometimes a battlefield. Here’s the scoop from the League of American Bicyclists, these folks who stand up for pedal-pushers everywhere. Picture this: October 22, a big day in Charlotte, NC. The FCC’s got its ears perked up, trying to figure out if local broadcasters are playing nice with their communities. Enter stage left, local cyclists and Steven Waters, repping the League, dropping some truth bombs about how some radio jocks are pretty much rallying the masses to treat cyclists like target practice. We’re talking about a dark comedy skit gone wrong on Raleigh’s G105, where they’re literally giving a playbook on how to terrorize two-wheelers. “Drive ’em off the road,” they say. “Share your tales of terror,” they urge. And one charmer, he’s dreaming of launching Yoo-Hoo bottle missiles at cyclists, fantasizing about revving a motorcycle down a bike lane because, get this, he thinks sidewalks are bike highways.
But it’s not just Raleigh. Cleveland, Houston, San Jose – it’s like a domino effect of disdain for those who dare to pedal. Thankfully, the story’s catching fire, with the Charlotte Observer, the Raleigh News Observer, the Los Angeles Times, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer all jumping on the bandwagon, spotlighting this madness. And guess what? Advertisers are starting to jump ship, not wanting to sail on this sea of hostility. It’s a fast-moving drama, and for the very latest, the Raleigh Area Triathletes are on the case.

Just goes to show, every pedal stroke’s a statement. But hey, cycling’s more than a ride; it’s a right. And it’s stories like these, tales of the road, that remind us why we keep pushing forward, spokes spinning, hearts racing. For more on this evolving saga, pedal over to the links shared. Stay safe, ride strong.

Let's Boycott Clear Channel
Woah, talk about a real shocker! So, these DJs over at Clear Channel’s Raleigh station G105 went way off the deep end, huh? Encouraging folks to go after cyclists like it’s some kind of twisted game? That’s just nuts! And the bit about tossing Yoo-Hoo bottles and zooming down bike lanes on a motorcycle? Totally out of line.
Your cycling club, the Yankee Pedalers, is stepping up big time with this boycott call. It’s clear y’all are not just spinning your wheels; you’re really pushing the pedal to the metal on standing up for cyclists’ rights. And it’s pretty smart to target not just the stations but their advertisers too. Money talks, right?
For anyone feeling the burn to do something about this, checking out the League of American Bicyclists at bikeleague.org sounds like a good pedal in the right direction. They’ve got the latest scoop on how to keep the rubber on the road, safely.
And hey, for those in the Hartford, New Haven, and Springfield areas, looks like you’ve got a whole playlist of stations to switch off. From WHCN 105.9 to WNNZ-AM 640, it’s quite the lineup.

What do you all think? Ready to put the brakes on Clear Channel Communications and show some love for our two-wheeled friends? Let’s get this conversation rolling!

Everything begins and ends
Last night was a solo adventure through The Matrix, and honestly, I didn’t stay “solo” for long, I got completely sucked into that digital theater. You know how sometimes you’re watching a movie, and suddenly it feels like it’s speaking right to you? Yeah, that was me. It felt like every line was nodding to ideas I’ve mulled over for years. Stuff like, “So what is the point… everything begins and ends.” I’m still unpacking it all this morning.
Meanwhile, here at work, it’s a ghost town. I’d need a map and compass to even find a “good morning” from someone, everyone must’ve taken the day off. And the run last night? Brutal. I was out there in the rain, and at one point I hit a slick rock, landed right on my elbow, and just kept sliding. Freezing leaves, wet mud, nature’s version of an obstacle course, and I only managed the “one hilla killa” instead of the full three.
Laundry’s looking like an adventure too. With just two dollars and fifty cents to my name, I’m on a strict hand-wash and dryer-only budget tonight. It’s like Survivor: Laundry Edition, but hey, it might work.
Anyway, back to the grind. Hope your morning’s smooth and a whole lot less slippery than mine!

Matrix Movie Out Today
Today’s the big day, the final Matrix movie finally hits theaters! I was all set to see it with the group at noon, but now they’ve pushed it to 4, which throws a wrench in things. So, guess who’s going solo? Yep, that’s me. I could tag along with them later, but that means I’d have to skip my afternoon run, and that’s not happening. Not a chance.
And to top it off, it’s raining today, just like it was yesterday. But hey, I’m choosing to see the bright side, it’ll make tonight’s run feel all the more refreshing. (Or maybe just damp, but let’s be optimistic here.)
Oh, and in today’s saga of minor annoyances, Sam’s Club is claiming that I damaged those rims myself. Can you believe that? Sure, because I have so much free time for casual rim damage.
Wish I could head up to Plattsburgh to celebrate Paul’s birthday, but I’ll just have to send him some long-distance cheers. Anyway, happy lunchtime, folks! Hope it’s treating you better than Sam’s Club is treating me.

H E L P
The statement below is from the company that I work for (no joke). Please read:
An important addendum to your Savings Plan SPD and prospectus is now available on Employee Self Service. This addendum provides additional information about two recently announced changes to the Savings Plan: expanded ESOP diversification rights and conversion of ESOP stock from preferred to common stock. This addendum is an important part of your SPD. Please take a moment to review it…
What the fudge does it mean? Here are my questions:
- What is a SPD?
- What is a prospectus?
- What is ESOP ?
- What is preferred stock vs common?
Please comment!

New Pictures are Posted
Tonight, I realized I’ve been slacking on sharing all the photos I’ve been getting in the mail. So, I’ve finally posted two sets! The first batch is from my trip to Saratoga Springs to visit Paul and Lucy (such a good time with those two!). The second set features Emerson and his mom, Julie. There’s a cute Halloween shot of Emerson, plus one where he’s somehow flying a bassinet. 😂 Ah, kids these days, always keeping things interesting!

Giving Up
Mood: Grouchy
Music: Enya – Miss Clare Remembers
Food: Blueberry Scone & Coffee
Setting: WorkAlright, I think it’s time to throw in the towel on these morning runs. It’s just too dark out there, I’m talking pitch black, can’t-see-your-hand-in-front-of-your-face dark. I’m planning to do what I did last winter: head to work early, knock out the day, then hit the trails for an evening mountain run. Less “early bird catches the worm,” more “evening owl avoids face-planting in a tree.” Honestly, I was already itching to dust off the mountain bike the other day. And any day now, it’ll be ski season, so maybe I should just wait and swap out my trail shoes for skis.
Right now, I’m sitting here with my scone and coffee, trying to summon that elusive burst of ambition everyone talks about, the kind that makes you feel productive. (Spoiler alert: not feeling it yet.) If it doesn’t show up soon, I’ll settle for just getting through the day. Tick-tock, tick-tock… I woke up with a raging headache around 4 or 5 a.m., so that’s probably not helping either.
Hope y’all are faring better out there. Here’s to surviving ‘til quitting time.

Description Of Good Weekend
This weekend was wonderful. Friday night I went to a Halloween party at my friend Sean's house. We handed out candy to 250 children. Why so many … he said that there neiborhood is a popular place during Halloween and a lot of inner city kids show up. All these mini vans full of trick or treaters. It is a real weird situation. I am not used to that kind of thing. As a child I knew all the houses I visited. I cant imagine boarding a bus to go to Billings to invade a neiborhood that I did not know.
Saturday I traveled to Plattsburgh. Some of the stretches of the New York Thruway that goes through the Adirondacks are soooo long. Some times I had the car at 120 MPH and others I had the cruise control set at 100. I know all the police hideouts along the way. I used to travel that stretch every weekend. Once in Plattsburgh I got all involved in cleaning and vacuuming my car for the drop off at Scratch Club (Scams Club). We dropped my car off for new tires then we went out for dinner.
We drove from place to place to only find that they were closed. Finally we settled upon Hitchcocks. It is a pub and sports bar. I had a huge burger and fries. It was good to be with friends again.
After that we went to the new Starbucks to see how that was. It wasn't built completely yet so we headed over to Borders Books. It has a new coffee pavilion off the side encompassed by glass. I noticed that as you site you can see all the weather clouds coming and going across the North Country. I found a Adirondack Picture book and some other books by Richard Back to enjoy with my big coffee and cookie. We had a great and relaxing time there. Very nice.
Paul and I dropped Lucy off at the Limberises, her parents new house in the evening and we returned to a used book store downtown. We browsed through old books and found a lot of cool stuff. Some books were from the horse and buggy times. We found some great books on Alaska and talked about going in two years for an adventure. After the grueling wait (Paul found some books to buy) we headed back to Scratch Club to pick up my car.
That evening we had Lucy's Birthday Dinner at the Limberis's. I enjoyed the Greek tea and the olives. The squash was awesome as well. Niko enjoyed the game were you keep the balloon from touching the ground. It was fun. After dinner we jumped to Paul and Lucy's house for the desert. You cant beat Ben and Jerry's Ice cream. That was wonderful as well.
One of the authors that i like is E. M. Forester. While we were at the used books store I browsed his books and noticed “A Room With a View”. I suggested that we watch the movie and Paul thought that it was a good idea as well. We stopped by the local wine shop for some wine. Paul left it up to me to choose. I immediately chose Shiraz by Yellowtail (cheap). Although I did find some by Rosemont Estates. The guy behind the counter agreed. His face lit up when I lifted the bottle and gestured. He said that Yellowtail cant hold a candle to the Rosemont. The guy was an expert! I felt proud that I even knew such things. When we arrived at the house I said that the wine was inspired by Monica, my friend that introduced me. Paul and Lucy had not tried Shiraz before. Ahhhhh that comfy feeling….the movie, a chic flick that even I found too bland. And I like those types of movies. Room with a View is very dry!
Sunday morning I woke up to find out that my rims on my car were screwed up by Scratch Club. Paul and I took them in for a good argument with the staff. Not much I can do living down here and not being a member. It seems though that Paul has them admitting that they screwed up. After that cobossal we went hiking at Rattlesnake Mountain. It was slightly raining but the hike was good. Driving back home sucked. No money (had to borrow 55 cents from Paul for the tolls), no sleep, and raining most of the way.
It was a good weekend. I cant wait till I get back up there. Possibly for a job interview some day.

Back from Plattsburgh: Adventures, Tantrums, and (Maybe) New Tires?

Yes, this is a boneshakerbike mountain bike frame with road gear and I was able to sneak away for a rare pizza cutter win. Yo yo yo, Plattsburgh survivors! Guess who’s back, like a bad penny refusing to stay hidden in your couch cushions? That’s right, yours truly, fresh off an adventure (or was it an ordeal?) in the great northern tundra. So strap in, folks, ’cause this update promises more twists and turns than a pretzel factory.
First things first: Plattsburgh. Did it break me? Did it reform me? Did it, dare I say, confuse me more than a politician’s campaign promises? Let’s just say I may have returned with a few extra stories (and possibly a questionable tan line). Details to come, stay tuned!
Speaking of stories, buckle up for the holy trinity of chaos: new tires, a Sam’s Club snafu of epic proportions, and a mind-bending experience so intense it rivals the season finale of Lost. (Remember that show? Wild times.) Unpacking might take longer than deciphering hieroglyphics, but fear not, pictures are coming soon, proof that I actually ventured beyond my front door.
Now, excuse me while I go wrestle with these boxes and contemplate the existential questions raised by Sam’s Club’s return policy. Until next time, remember: sometimes, the best souvenirs are the stories you (almost) can’t believe yourself.
P.S. Did anyone else catch the meteor shower last night? Or was that just my sanity shooting stars across the sky? Asking for a friend… (who may or may not be me, but hey, who’s judging?)
