Not exactly a stunning place to go, but what is one supposed to do after a big dumping of devil dust?

  • Worth it

Silken Skein FallsMy partner and I climbed up to Silken Skein Falls. And it was not my doing. We were riding our mountain bikes up to Hyalite Lake and I wished to stay focused on the task at hand. My partner on the other hand wanted to explore this tiny trail to a hidden waterfall. I went along only because I would of been abandon on the trail.  It took some time to find not to mention lots of climbing. I am unsure if this was a good way to spend our time. We should get back on the bikes. Soon I am captivated by the sun shining through the falling water. Such a simple visual treat. And the way the water lay silken over the mossy rocks.  Maybe the trip up to these falls was worth it after all.

  • Diffrences

This year, Kona Bridge was a little different. The sun wasn’t out; instead, it was cold and grey. Mo wasn’t waiting for me as usual; she was right behind me. We stopped for a break. I needed to go down to the river to wash my glasses, and Mo needed to exchange her muddy and cold gear for something warm. It would be another hour or so before we stopped for breakfast at the Crossroads Truck Stop. Last year was warmer, and I was solo. This year, I was part of a team.

  • Hiking

I have not been on the bike for over a week. It is not that I don’t want to it is just that I figure I needed a break from the old saddle before hitting it hard core for next years ultra endurance racing.

Tonight after work I could not work out because I had to wait on the Bridgemaxx tech to install my external antenna. Then after he got it in I had to test it out. A little faster and no jitter which means I now have a phone 322 DIRT.

I wanted to get on the trainer tonight but getting the winter training apparatuses from the closet I realized there was some working to do.

    1. Mount slick on backup cross wheel for trainer.
    2. Mount old cross tires on townie bike.
    3. Find that damn skewer that is special for the trainer.
    4. Give up of finding thee skewer and rig a make shift one.
    5. Mount bike onto trainer.
    6. Get out new bike computer (cadence and speed).
    7. Realize that I need at least 5 zip ties.
    8. Also realize I don’t have 5 zip ties.
    9. Give up till tomorrow.

So as I picked up the phone to call mom and dad for tonight’s chat I sat on the couch to type up this blog. No workout tonight.

I wonder what Suzy is doing right now!

  • Prepairing To Ski

    Prepairing To Ski

Hello from my apartment where I get ready for a 5k running race this morning. No! I have not trained for running and I have not run except for cyclocross season. But … It Is a race and that Is what I am looking for. Also at $5.00 to register this falls Into why not, It Is almost free category.

This week I have been thinking about my ski situation. I am pretty set for tele skiing but as far as skate, classic and back country I have broken equipment. This week I was able to patch my BC setup with some chain parts and screws. I think It will do the trick (see photo ).

So tomorrow Is up In the air but one thing Is certain. I will be skiing. Snow bowl already has a 36 Inch base and It Is barely December. heck, It Isn’t even officially winter yet. I just read Doug Burner’s Blog and they are even getting the white stuff In Wisconsin. funny! Europe has no snow and they are canceling the World Cup Ski Races. I read about some yurt skiing In “Outside Missoula ” magazine so I guess this Is the place to be.

This week I was able to get out twice for some skiing up In Pattee Canyon. the first trek was up University mountain and back down (busting my boots again, thus the new fix). the second ski was on the same mountain but a longer loop that skirts around the beast.

Well, I better get my tights on and running shoes. It Is a frosty one today. Also, today Is a Griz playoff game and I have a pizza ready and I’ll be picking up a growler of beer If I can scrape together some change. Tomorrow …. hmm, a big possibility of tele on Fuji! Unless I can find one NNN binding and In that case skating! Go Griz!

  • Starry Night Ski

The snow has arrived, and with it, the end of mountain biking in and around Missoula. I still cycle to work, but hitting the trails on a bike? Not a great idea right now. The silver lining? There’s enough snow for skiing.

This Thursday’s Starry Night Ski in the Rattlesnake Recreation Area was sparsely attended, but that didn’t dampen my spirits. I had an absolute blast.

The route began up Spring Creek, veering onto Curry Cabin Trail. After reaching the ridge, it descended into Saw Mill Gulch and returned to the trailhead via the Mandatory Single Track. It was so exhilarating that I’m contemplating organizing a back-country Ski Series at the Snake.

Next week, Starry Night will explore the trails of Pattee Canyon. I’m also eager to ski the University Mountain South Ridge. Hope to see you there!

  • Lessons

The biggest news is that the interview yesterday went well, and hopefully, tomorrow I will have good news.

Here’s a lesson we should all follow if we blog regularly: write your blog in Word first. For starters, spell check and grammar checks are a plus. Secondly, and most importantly, when you make a mistake, you have a backup.

I just wrote a blog and accidentally pressed the back button in the browser. Lost it all. Well, I don’t want to recap, and I’ll be online later tonight to chat. Marcy and I are going to Water Works Hill tonight. Stay tuned to the Beam!

  • Yuma For Christmas

    Yuma For Christmas

This holiday season, I will be spending time with my family in Yuma, Arizona. So far, I’ve just booked my flight, and now I am planning physical activities. Last year was all about taking pictures and using my camera. This year, I want to engage in more activities to stay in shape, instead of lying around and getting sick and lazy. I remember last year, I slipped into a bit of depression after the holidays because I was out of shape. Here are a couple of things I would like to check out:

    • Muggins Peak
    • Betty’s Kitchen Wildlife Area and Interpretive Trail
    • Cibola National Wildlife Refuge Nature Trail
    • Painted Desert Trail
    • Palm Canyon Trail

Mom (and anyone else), please feel free to comment!
