Today we wanted to see how far up the drainage we could go. Every 500 feet of climbing it leveled out to another series of lakes. The first one was triangle lake. And then the next one was Sheep lake. On our way up to the next level I landed the wrong way and hurt my leg. At first I was scared because of the pain that was going through my body. I thought maybe I would need an extraction. But after a while we were able to make a crutch and I was able to get back down to camp. That was about it for day 2.

Glacier Lake Day 1
We parked in the parking lot and headed up the trail. We just Bought Elle and last night car camping out of it was great. So much room and versatility. But now we were starting our bike backpacking section of our vacation.
The climb was pretty long but eventually we finally made a way to Glacier like. That was the easy part though, because getting around the lake took the rest of the day. By the time we got to the outlet, or inlet I might say, it was evident that we needed to camp and get some rest. Looking back though I wish we could of made it up to triangle like. It was a beautiful spot were we decided to camp. I spent the afternoon lounging in my new hammock. What to do the next day was the question in our heads as we lay her head on the pillow and went to sleep.

Elle
Elle is our new car. And what did we do for it’s first date? Took it 4 wheeling in the Beartooths. It was all good … until the marmots ate the wiring. The marmots ate your baby!

2015 24 hours of Rapelje
This year Mo and I teamed up for the two men er I mean two person division. Overall and that includes all male teams we won the two person division. Actually this was pretty fun and it revitalized my interest in 24-hour racing. Doing the Solo is pretty hard but was even harder because you never get to rest and you never see your partner. But this was fun and I was really impressed at how Mo turned it on and save the day. I was able to put in three strong laps in the morning to solidify our win. But Mo just kept going and going and going and put it over a hundred miles alone. Awesome!

WNA #4 – Urban Legend
Exhausted we could not just forget what we started. A last minute move to save the series it was decided to ride the Urban legend, a quick and dirty as you will. There is more single track then you think and it is the reason it is my long way home from work. total participants was two. 2 = “fun”++, right?

Boulder Pass
Another car camping trip. Ye ha. We decided to go up into the Absoroka and camp on the Boulder River. And just like any other adventure we had to see where this road ended up. It ends up that it turns into a trail that goes past in a ghost town. And then up to Boulder Pass. Oh what did we see that was unusual here? We saw a Porsche coming down off of this pass. This a pass which had boulders and rocks and it was questionable on how the four wheelers actually made it. But this person had taken this Porsche and retrofitted it for four wheeling. That was really weird.

Chrome
I know what you’re thinking. The Chrome browser right? Well there’s also a mountain called Chrome in the Absoroka Beartooth Range.
And what do you think snuggles and I tried to do with it? We tried to climb the damn thing. And you know what we saw. Oh no wait a second that’s the next day. You have to wait till tomorrow to find out what we saw.

The Crazy Climb
Another car camping trip in the Crazies. Well not another trip to the Crazies but another car camping trip. Previously we had been to the Lewis and Clark and the Tobacco Roots. now it was time to test our skills in the Crazies. We found a ridge, studied how to bike up it, and crushed it. That is a lie. we stumbled upon the trail and we suffered to climb it. But it was fun. And that is what counts. Right? -

WNA #3 – Sniping the M

M Trail Someone, and I will not mention who, forgot their helmet. So we needed to start from Aero Cafe. This is a formidable ride. Tons of climbing. From story Mill up to the junction of the Foothills trail. And then the heralding bomb down to the ravine between Sypes and the M trails. Then more climbing that wold bust anyone open. Finally a cruise to the M. The ride home on death highway was not fun with a sudden downpour. I think rain is going to be the common theme with this years series. Total riders in tonight’s group … 2. Perfect!

Like old time Montana
When I was young I loved this state because you could do these huge adventures without seeing anyone and camp where ever. We spent some time in the Lewis and Clark National Forest. Not that many people take the trek to this isolated hunk of land that includes the Little Belt Mountain Range. Little Belts as the locals call it. Heck a house in White Sulfur Springs probably is about a fourth of the cost of a place in Bozeman … maybe even a fifth. -

Sluice box
We visited Great Falls to be with friends for a special occasion. On the way back we treated ourselves to a state park I have always wanted to visit. It did not disappoint. After chatting with a park ranger we discovered that no one knows if bicycles are allowed and most importantly why one would even want to ride one here. And we discovered why. Multiple river crossings prompted us to do the unofficial trail to the bottom of the canyon. We rambled along all day in amazement in ever bend. What a great chunk of land. Even though riding my bike where we walked would of been freaking amazing.

WNA #2 – Mystic Ride
So many things get in the way. But you must fight. And we fought back to life’s busyness with another installation of the Wednesday Night Adventure series and busted out the Mystic Lake Cabin Ride. It rained of course and we got out late. But we did it. Take that life!

The rewards for a rainy vacation
My big block of vacation time came to an end with a sunny day. And what better to happen but to stumble upon the ride of the year. An obscure little loop called Brownback Gulch. Fantastic downhill through the pine and aspens. Even my partner was ripping the downhill. And it all started with a big batch of bacon. Now that is the way to end a vacation from the salt mines.

What to do on rainy days
We had a block of days off available to us. We had planned to attack the Lewis and Clark National Forest and plan our adventures from base camp. But on the day we were supposed to put up our camp we did found numerous campgrounds. But it was raining and we didn’t feel like getting out of our vehicle to put up camp. We drove around a bit and finally decided to just stop off and do the tourist thing. We stopped off at Memorial Falls. Checked out said falls, put in a good 3 mile hike, and then decided to drive home. That’s what we did on a rainy day.

What to do the day after a rainy day
Continuing on from the previous blog post. We woke up to a nice and although not really sunny, better day. It was cloudy but looked like there were areas on the horizon that were possibly better. To the West is a mountain range called The Tobacco Roots. It didn’t look that bad over there so we decided let’s go. So we packed the car and headed out. We found a great campsite and use the Ford Focus wagon to go off roading for just about 300 feet to get to the perfect spot.
The next day we took off on an adventure via mountain bike. We went as far as we could up each trail but eventually found snow. And at the end of the day it started to rain and we went back to camp. And fell asleep to the raindrops pitter pattering on top of our roof.
This is what we did on the day after a rainy day.

Wednesday Night Adventure

No, not a ride in Hyalite. Actually the only ride is a short one to the store to pick up some chicory for our morning tea. No, tonight’s adventure is packing. It starts tonight as we pack the car to the hilt with bikes and car camping materials. Then it all continues tomorrow when we skedaddle to the Lewis and Clark. This adventure will end on Monday evening. Have a great holiday weekend folks.
