  • Epic Mountain Bike Ride

    The Adventure Begins

It’s October 3rd, a day that’s etched in my memory as one of the most exhilarating experiences on two wheels. I call it the “Grave Range Growler,” a mountain bike adventure with a twist that I’ll never forget. The journey takes me through an intricate web of trails, each with its own story and challenge. From the daunting Deadman Gulch to the serene South Blue Skirt, each turn brings a new thrill.

    Deadman Gulch

The ride kicks off at Deadman Gulch, a trail that’s as ominous as its name suggests. The rugged terrain tests my skills and resilience right from the start. With each pedal, I feel like I’m awakening the spirits of the trail, each turn bringing an adrenaline rush that’s both terrifying and invigorating.

    South Blue Skirt

Next, I glide into South Blue Skirt, a stark contrast to the Gulch. Here, the trail weaves through a tapestry of blue wildflowers, creating a surreal, almost dreamlike experience. The beauty of this trail is a soothing balm, healing the intensity of the previous ride.

    Grave Creek Growler

The heart of the adventure lies in the Grave Creek Growler. It’s here that I truly understand why I call this ride the “Growler.” The trail roars with a life of its own, with steep climbs and descents that challenge even the most seasoned riders.

    Dry Creek Gulch

Emerging from the Growler, I find myself in Dry Creek Gulch. It’s a deceptive name, as the trail is anything but dry. The creek that runs alongside it is a constant companion, its babbling a soundtrack to my journey.

OBrian Creek – The Twist Ending

Finally, the trail spills out onto OBrian Creek, the twist ending to my epic ride. This part of the trail is like a gentle epilogue, a chance to reflect on the journey and the beauty of nature that surrounded me.

    Reflections on the Ride

As I conclude this adventure, I’m filled with a sense of accomplishment and awe. Mountain biking is more than just a sport to me; it’s a journey through nature’s diverse landscapes, a way to challenge my limits, and a means to find peace.

  • When September Blues Clash with Autumn’s Hues

September rolls in, bringing with it a tapestry of fall colors – the vibrant yellows, fiery reds, and warm oranges. It’s a time when nature puts on its most spectacular show, with blanket flowers blooming like tiny suns dotting the landscape. Yet, for some of us, the beauty of fall brings a contrasting feeling, a certain melancholy that seems at odds with the surrounding splendor. It’s like standing in a room filled with laughter while a silent tear rolls down your cheek.

Why does this happen? How can the season that brings such visual joy also bring a touch of sadness?

The answer lies in the intricate dance between our surroundings and our internal emotions. As the days get shorter and the nights longer, our bodies react to the decreasing sunlight. This change can impact our mood, leading to what’s often called the ‘September Blues’. It’s a real thing, and you’re not alone in feeling it.

The beauty of the blanket flowers and the allure of autumn leaves can sometimes heighten this sense of melancholy. It’s as if the world is having a party to which our spirits haven’t been invited. This contrast between external beauty and internal sorrow can be striking.

But here’s the thing: acknowledging this feeling is the first step towards embracing the season in all its complexity. Just as the leaves fall and regrow, our moods are also part of a natural cycle. It’s okay to feel a bit down even amidst the beauty of fall.

To lift your spirits, consider embracing the season in a new way:

    1. Nature Walks: Take a stroll through a park or a nature trail. The physical activity and connection with nature can be incredibly soothing.
    2. Creative Expression: Channel your feelings into art, writing, or music. Let the colors of fall inspire you.
    3. Mindfulness Practices: Engage in mindfulness or meditation, focusing on the beauty of the present moment.
    4. Seasonal Activities: Try your hand at seasonal activities like pumpkin carving or apple picking. These can be fun and uplifting.
    5. Connect with Others: Share your feelings with friends or loved ones. Sometimes, just talking about it can lighten the load.

Remember, it’s perfectly normal to feel a mix of emotions as seasons change. The beauty of nature, like the blanket flowers of fall, is there to be appreciated, but it’s also okay if it stirs a range of feelings in you. Embrace the complexity of your emotions – they’re as natural as the changing seasons.

  • Autumn Thrills at Silver Mountain

Hey there, adventure seekers! Guess what Mo and I did this October 1st? We hit the trails at Silver Mountain Bike Park, and oh boy, was it a ride to remember!

Picture this: a crisp autumn morning, the leaves turning a million shades of red and gold, and us, gearing up for some serious mountain biking fun. Silver Mountain isn’t just any bike park – it’s a paradise for riders of all levels with trails that challenge and excite.

Our day started on the gondola, rising above a sea of autumn colors. Mo, ever the jokester, pretended to spot a bear, but nope, just a mischievous squirrel. We reached the top and the real fun began. The trails were a perfect mix of thrill and beauty, winding through the forest with occasional glimpses of the stunning valley below.

We took on everything from breezy beginner paths to heart-pumping downhill tracks. Mo, ever the daredevil, led the way on some of the more challenging routes, while I (admittedly) screamed a little (okay, a lot).

After hours of riding, laughing, and a few minor spills, we wrapped up our day at the base lodge. Over burgers and fries, we shared stories with fellow bikers, each with their own tales of Silver Mountain’s allure.

So, if you’re looking for an exhilarating way to enjoy the fall season, Silver Mountain Bike Park is the place to be. And who knows, you might just spot us there again, because one day is just not enough at this mountain biking haven.

  • September Shenanigans: MTB Trails, FroMo, and Goofy Times

September was a month of pedal-pushing adventures and goofy fun, kicking off with a memorable MTB ride at Como with my best buddy, Chad from Red Barn Bicycles in Hamilton, Montana. There’s something about the crisp air and the rugged trails there that sets the perfect stage for MTB thrills.

Next up was Disco Bike Park with Mo – a place that’s as fun as it sounds. Imagine whizzing down trails with the sun peeking through the trees, the sound of our bikes mingling with the natural symphony of the outdoors. It’s the kind of experience that stays with you.

The highlight, though, had to be the weekend in Whitefish at the Bike Park. Calling it my favorite doesn’t do it justice. It’s a paradise for bikers – trails of every kind, from the adrenaline-pumping to the serene, surrounded by stunning scenery that looks like it’s been lifted from a postcard.

In between these escapades, Mo and I found time to explore closer to home, discovering the beauty of blanket flowers. These little bursts of color dotting the landscape were a reminder of nature’s simple pleasures.

The epic rides to Snowbowl were something else. There’s a sense of achievement when you conquer those trails, a mix of endurance and thrill that’s hard to replicate elsewhere.

Kellogg Bike Park (Silver Mountain) was another standout, where eating FroMo (or was it FroYo?) and doing downhill runs became our routine. Imagine the rush of downhill biking combined with the sweet taste of frozen treats – it’s an unbeatable combo.

Finally, back in Missoula, the goofing around never stopped. Whether it was impromptu races down neighborhood streets or simply chilling in the backyard, these moments added a light-hearted balance to the high-octane adventures of the month.

And as always, here are some resources to enhance your day:

  • September Splendors at Legacy Bike Park

As September painted the world in its early autumn hues, we found ourselves gearing up for a weekend at the legendary Legacy Bike Park. Imagine a place where time slows down just enough for you to savor every moment, and that’s exactly what Legacy offered.

Our adventure kicked off with an incredible sunset on Friday evening. The sky above Legacy was like an artist’s canvas, streaked with oranges, pinks, and purples. It felt like nature was putting on a show just for us, setting the stage for the weekend ahead.

Saturday was all about Slopestyle MTB.
The thrill of watching riders defy gravity.
Performing jaw-dropping aerial stunts, was simply electrifying.

We couldn’t help but be in awe of their skill and bravery as they soared through the air, each jump more daring than the last.

    Legacy is more than just a spectator’s paradise; it’s a rider’s dream.

We spent hours exploring the bike park, our tires humming against the dirt trails. The park’s diverse terrain challenged us, thrilled us, and left us wanting more. And when our legs needed a break, the shuttle rides up the hill were a godsend, offering a chance to catch our breath and chat with fellow biking enthusiasts.

Of course, with such a popular destination, there was the inevitable waiting in line.

But even this became an experience in itself. We swapped stories with other riders, shared tips, and even made a few new friends. The community spirit at Legacy Bike Park was palpable, making every minute enjoyable, even those spent in line.

As each day wound down, we retreated to our campsite. Camping at Legacy was an experience unto itself. The nights were filled with the comforting crackle of campfires, the aroma of roasting marshmallows, and the soft strumming of a guitar somewhere in the distance. Under a blanket of stars, we relived the day’s adventures and dreamt of the trails we’d tackle next.

    Breathtaking sunsets

Legacy Bike Park in September was more than just a weekend getaway; it was a vivid tapestry of experiences, each thread more colorful than the last. From breathtaking sunsets to adrenaline-fueled rides, and the simple joy of camping, it was a reminder of how exhilarating and enriching a weekend can be.

  • Mountain Magic at Silver Mountain

There’s something about Kellogg, Idaho that whispers of untamed adventure and wild serenades. Picture this: a day dawning with golden sunlight spilling over gondolas at Silver Mountain Bike Park. It’s not just a day; it’s the start of an exhilarating chapter in the book of outdoor thrills.

Our ascent in the gondola was like stepping into a new world. The air was fresher, crisper, as if inviting us to leave behind everything but our sense of adventure. And as our bikes hit the trails, the real magic began. Imagine a symphony of spinning wheels harmonizing with the rustle of leaves, all set against the backdrop of towering pines and their earthy, comforting scent.

The trails at Silver Mountain are like ribbons winding through the forest, each turn unraveling new wonders. We glimpsed wildlife darting through the underbrush, felt the gentle caress of the breeze, and heard the echo of our laughter as it danced through the trees. It’s not just biking; it’s an immersive experience that stitches you into the very fabric of nature.

Then there was the glade – a sun-dappled sanctuary where time seemed to pause. Our bikes leaned against ancient trunks as we soaked in the tranquility, the kind of peace that you can only find in the heart of the wilderness.

As the day drew to a close, the sky morphed into a canvas of brooding clouds, signaling our retreat to the campsite. Nestled in the embrace of nature, we shared stories and warmth, the day’s adventures turning into memories under the watchful eye of the evening sky.

In Kellogg, at Silver Mountain, every pedal stroke was more than just a movement; it was a verse in our mountain ballad, a tribute to the raw, unbridled beauty of the landscape. It’s a place where adventure sings in the air, and every visit writes a new line in your story of outdoor escapades.

  • September Surges with Adventures and Antics

August waved goodbye with a flourish of activities, setting the stage for a September that promises even more thrills and spills. Here’s a sneak peek into the whirlwind of adventures that made the end of August unforgettable.

First off, quality time was spent with the neighborhood’s favorite feline, Blue. This furball’s antics are always a heartwarmer and a surefire stress buster. Whether it’s his quirky mannerisms or just his purring presence, Blue has a way of making any day better.

Then, there was the adrenaline-pumping e-MTB downhill training on my trusty enduro rig, Dark Wing. Zipping through trails with the wind in my face and the thrill of speed was an absolute blast, perfect preparation for more challenging rides ahead.

Speaking of epic rides, Mo and I teamed up for some unforgettable biking escapades. There’s nothing like the camaraderie of a shared ride, especially when it’s with someone who shares your passion for the trails.

In between these high-octane outings, there were recovery rides on Jack, my mountain bike. These rides, a blend of tranquility and physical rejuvenation, were essential for keeping the muscles loose and the mind at peace.

The period also included some product testing sessions. Getting hands-on with the latest gear and gadgets is always a mix of excitement and learning – who knows what new favorites I’ll discover!

Finally, the month capped off with epic double battery e-MTB sojourns. These long, exploratory rides are the perfect way to test endurance, enjoy the beauty of nature, and push the limits of what’s possible on two wheels.

With August wrapped up in such a high-energy way, September looks set to be even more exciting. Stay tuned for more adventures and stories from the trail!

  • Wednesday’s Wild Ride

    Lessons on Wheels

Wednesday’s Wild Ride: Lessons on Wheels

There’s something both exhilarating and terrifying about pushing your limits, especially when it comes to biking. Let me tell you about my recent escapade with Wednesday – not the day, but my new downhill bike that’s as fast as a lightning bolt. This bike isn’t just a mode of transportation; it’s a rocket on two wheels, a beast that demands respect and a bit of fear.

On a seemingly ordinary day, I decided to take Wednesday for a spin. Downhill biking has always been my jam, but with this new bike, it was like learning to ride all over again. The speed was intoxicating, so much so that I felt like a superhero… until I didn’t.

Picture this: a beautiful track, the wind in my face, the world blurring past. Then, there’s this lip on the track, a mere bump in the road, or so I thought. On my usual bikes, a lip like that is nothing more than a hiccup. But Wednesday? Oh, Wednesday had other plans.

I hit that lip at what felt like Mach 100. In an instant, I was soaring, not with grace but with a dawning horror. The flight was less Superman and more Icarus. I found myself crash-landing into the next county, unceremoniously dumped into the weeds. The result? A fractured ankle and a bruised ego, sidelining me for the rest of the season.

But here’s the kicker: even lying there, amidst the weeds and with a throbbing ankle, I couldn’t help but laugh. It was a harsh lesson in respecting the beast beneath you, in understanding that with great power comes great responsibility (and potentially great wipeouts).

So, what did I learn from this wild ride with Wednesday? First, never underestimate the power of a good bike. Second, always be prepared for a ride to turn into an unexpected adventure. And third, sometimes the best stories come from the most spectacular tumbles.

Now, while I’m off the tracks healing, let me share some resources to keep your adventurous spirit alive and well:

  • Late August in Missoula

    Adventures and Antics

Hey everyone! Today, I’m diving into my late August escapades in the gorgeous Missoula. It’s been a whirlwind of outdoor thrills, some humorous fitness endeavors, and, of course, more mountain biking because why not?

Hiking to Secret Spots Missoula’s landscape is a treasure trove of hidden gems. Hiking here is like unwrapping a present – you never know what stunning view awaits. My recent treks led me to some secret spots that looked like they were straight out of a fantasy novel. Tranquil, untouched, and perfect for those Instagram snaps!

Mr. Bear’s Fitness Journey Now, here’s a twist. My stuffed bear, Mr. Bear, decided it’s time to get in shape. I’ve been finding him (mysteriously) near the weights. Maybe it’s my imagination, but I swear he’s looking more buff!

Mountain Biking: The Usual Suspect You guessed it. More mountain biking. Can’t get enough of the thrill and the rush! Each trail brings a new challenge, a new story, and frankly, I’m addicted. There’s something about the wind whooshing past and the scent of pine that’s just invigorating.

Rain, Rain, Go Away? No, Stay! The big rains brought some epic washouts. It was like nature’s own obstacle course, turning our biking trails into mini adventure parks. A bit of mud never hurt anyone, right?

And… Even More Biking Ending the month with, what else, but more biking. It’s not just a hobby; it’s a lifestyle here. Every ride is a new adventure, a new tale to tell.

  • Wildfire Whirlwind and Cliff Lake Chronicles

This weekend turned into an unexpected escapade when the relentless wildfire smoke chased us away from Kellog Bike Park. Instead of wheeling down familiar trails, we found ourselves steering towards the historic Great Burn area, home to the secluded Cliff Lake. It was a turn of events that transformed our weekend into a tale of adventure, exploration, and a touch of mystery.

As the smoke from distant wildfires crept in, obscuring the sun and casting an eerie haze over Kellog, our plans for a weekend of biking quickly went up in smoke – quite literally! Disappointed but undeterred, we pivoted our plans. The Great Burn area, a place steeped in history from the massive 1910 fires, beckoned us with its rugged beauty and the promise of clear skies. And so, with our bikes securely strapped, we ventured into the wild unknown.

The journey to Cliff Lake was a bumpy ride, both literally and figuratively. The further we traveled from civilization, the more the roads tested the limits of our vehicle and our patience. But as we often find, the best places are the hardest to reach. Emerging from the dense forest, Cliff Lake appeared before us like a hidden gem, its waters reflecting the clear blue sky, untouched by the smoke that had driven us here.

Our weekend at Cliff Lake was nothing short of magical. It was a serene escape, with the tranquil waters of the lake offering a stark contrast to the adrenaline-fueled bike rides we had initially planned. We swapped our bike helmets for fishing rods and hiking boots, exploring the rugged terrain and the untouched beauty of the area. The nights were a symphony of silence, punctuated only by the gentle lapping of the lake against the shore and the distant call of wildlife.

The serendipity of our trip to Cliff Lake reminded us that sometimes, the best adventures are the ones we don’t plan. As we packed up to leave, we promised to return, knowing that this hidden corner of the world would forever hold a special place in our hearts.

As we bid farewell to Cliff Lake, here are some “Resources to Enhance Your Day” to help you plan your own unexpected adventures:

    4. Fishing in Remote Lakes – Tips for fishing in secluded spots like Cliff Lake.

  • Impending Doom

    Impending Doom

    🔥🌲

As we gaze upon the hauntingly beautiful scenes, it’s impossible not to feel a deep sense of foreboding. The dark, ominous clouds hanging low, the eerie shadows stretching across the land, and the solitary figure standing amidst it all – it’s a poignant reminder of the fragility of our natural world.

As we approach the forest fire season, this image serves as a stark warning. The melancholy in the air, the sense of impending doom, speaks volumes about the urgent need for awareness and preparedness. Let’s not forget the lessons taught by nature’s own canvas. It’s a time to be vigilant, to protect our forests and the countless lives they sustain.

Together, we can make a difference. Let’s be mindful of our actions and their impact on the environment. It’s not just about preventing fires; it’s about preserving the beauty and balance of nature. #ForestFireSeason

  • Mid-August Musings from Missoula

Ah, Missoula, Montana, in the heart of summer! It’s easy to slip into a routine, isn’t it? The sun’s shining, the grills are sizzling with juicy burgers, and cold beers clink in the background. Yet, sometimes, we catch ourselves grumbling. It’s human nature, I guess, even when surrounded by all this splendor. But hey, winter is just a whisper away, and that’s when we’ll long for these golden days. So, let’s snap out of it and embrace the now!

Speaking of embracing the moment, let’s talk about Mo, or should I say Snuggles? She’s absolutely tearing it up on her new bike, a streak of joy on two wheels. It’s moments like these, watching her zoom past, that make you appreciate the simple joys of life.

And then there are the little anecdotes from work, the ones that make you chuckle. Life’s too short not to laugh at the quirks and oddities that each day brings. It’s these stories that make the days memorable and unique.

Let’s not forget the triumphant shout-out to last winter. Yes, you showed us your worst, but here we are, basking in the summer sun, a testament to resilience and the enduring human spirit. Take that, winter!

Now, the Rattlesnake Wilderness. Ah, what a marvel! Just recently, a summer picnic at Carla’s house unfolded into plans for an adventure into this natural wonder. Biking through the wilderness, hiking to unseen destinations, and that new water purifier – life’s all about these little explorations and innovations. It’s this sense of adventure that makes Missoula more than just a backdrop to our lives; it’s a playground for the soul.

And while winter will eventually cloak the landscape in white, let’s not wish away these sun-soaked days. There’s still time to revel in the warmth, to make more memories, and to appreciate the here and now. Because, before we know it, the snow will be here, and these summer days will be just another chapter in our book of adventures.
