Our last day at the Potosi Campground we decided to head on up to a lake called Bell. The distance seemed easy enough. Only a little over 3 miles. And then there was the 4 mile ride to the trailhead. What we ran into next was some of the most washed out atv trail in these parts. For at least the first mile anyway. But then it got better and eventually turned into a real technical single track. Which we like. And inded the climb was well worth it. After a sit down for some snacks we be-bopped back to camp. Good times. And then realized we had visitors …

Lower twin lake
Lower twin lakes sits at around 8000 feet and is in the Tobacco Root Mountains. We arrived at our campsite late night as per usual. Set up our camp unknowingly in the perfect place. It always seems to work out. Right?
The next day we did what we normally do. Started climbing, and climbing, and climbing, and ending up somewhere that is unacceptable to the normal human powered party. And then found our way back home. The loop seemed huge but in the end … awesome.

WNA #7 – Hyalite Trail of 2 Cabins
In Hyalite there are two cabins, Maxi and Window Rock. This ride went by both of them. It was the best of rides and it was the worst of rides. Worst because it came to an end and best because of the different kinds of terrain one encounters. We had fire road, double track, mud, dust, rock, swamp, bushwhack, and sweet single track. The best riders in the area showed up for the showdown and was done moments before dark. 2 were in attendance. See you next week.

WNA #6 – Chestnut Ridge Run
Tonight’s ride was 2 riders deep. A pretty stacked field of the worlds best climbers. And the test was formidable. with over 2,500 feet of vertical it was tough. but the views and rewards many. Next week … South Cottonwood maybe. -
Day two on the East Fork
After settling into our cow poop infested campsite we had a great night including campfire, sausage, and all the good things that camping involves. I didn’t early morning hill climb to the top of the ridge. And then for the rest of the day Mo decided we were going to climb Loco Peak on our bikes. Isn’t she awesome?

Base Camp East Fork
I just woke up and took a look outside. Did our midnight landing yield us a good campsite. Not too bad except there was cow shit everywhere. We had planned to get up here and camp at the Forest Lake Campground just down the road about 6 miles. But when we got here it was too late and the campsites were kind of, well I must say, a little trailer park. Canvas wall tents and the such. Kind of creepy. But this was a good spot. And today we decided to just get on our bikes and explore. And we almost climbed Virginia peak. All good.

WNA #5 – Bear Lake Quagmire

Mo rides over the bridge The ride tonight was moved from Wednesday to Thursday in honor of the TNR Missoula. The ride starts at Bear Canyon trail head and follows the signs to Bear lake … well there is some turns here and there one must do. But then again you should join us if you want to know the route. It was real greasy as always. Mo crashed and almost got impaled by a stake. then the mosquitoes sucked our blood dry at the lake. Fun time were had by 2 riders.

Glacier Lake Day 3
On day 3 we awoke to better weather. It was a nice day for a extraction. I was nervous because I was not sure if my leg was injured enough to prohibit me from carrying a pack out. Turns out it was. -

Glacier Lake Day 2
Today we wanted to see how far up the drainage we could go. Every 500 feet of climbing it leveled out to another series of lakes. The first one was triangle lake. And then the next one was Sheep lake. On our way up to the next level I landed the wrong way and hurt my leg. At first I was scared because of the pain that was going through my body. I thought maybe I would need an extraction. But after a while we were able to make a crutch and I was able to get back down to camp. That was about it for day 2.

Glacier Lake Day 1
We parked in the parking lot and headed up the trail. We just Bought Elle and last night car camping out of it was great. So much room and versatility. But now we were starting our bike backpacking section of our vacation.
The climb was pretty long but eventually we finally made a way to Glacier like. That was the easy part though, because getting around the lake took the rest of the day. By the time we got to the outlet, or inlet I might say, it was evident that we needed to camp and get some rest. Looking back though I wish we could of made it up to triangle like. It was a beautiful spot were we decided to camp. I spent the afternoon lounging in my new hammock. What to do the next day was the question in our heads as we lay her head on the pillow and went to sleep.

2015 24 hours of Rapelje
This year Mo and I teamed up for the two men er I mean two person division. Overall and that includes all male teams we won the two person division. Actually this was pretty fun and it revitalized my interest in 24-hour racing. Doing the Solo is pretty hard but was even harder because you never get to rest and you never see your partner. But this was fun and I was really impressed at how Mo turned it on and save the day. I was able to put in three strong laps in the morning to solidify our win. But Mo just kept going and going and going and put it over a hundred miles alone. Awesome!

WNA #4 – Urban Legend
Exhausted we could not just forget what we started. A last minute move to save the series it was decided to ride the Urban legend, a quick and dirty as you will. There is more single track then you think and it is the reason it is my long way home from work. total participants was two. 2 = “fun”++, right?

Boulder Pass
Another car camping trip. Ye ha. We decided to go up into the Absoroka and camp on the Boulder River. And just like any other adventure we had to see where this road ended up. It ends up that it turns into a trail that goes past in a ghost town. And then up to Boulder Pass. Oh what did we see that was unusual here? We saw a Porsche coming down off of this pass. This a pass which had boulders and rocks and it was questionable on how the four wheelers actually made it. But this person had taken this Porsche and retrofitted it for four wheeling. That was really weird.

Chrome
I know what you’re thinking. The Chrome browser right? Well there’s also a mountain called Chrome in the Absoroka Beartooth Range.
And what do you think snuggles and I tried to do with it? We tried to climb the damn thing. And you know what we saw. Oh no wait a second that’s the next day. You have to wait till tomorrow to find out what we saw.

The Crazy Climb
Another car camping trip in the Crazies. Well not another trip to the Crazies but another car camping trip. Previously we had been to the Lewis and Clark and the Tobacco Roots. now it was time to test our skills in the Crazies. We found a ridge, studied how to bike up it, and crushed it. That is a lie. we stumbled upon the trail and we suffered to climb it. But it was fun. And that is what counts. Right? -

WNA #3 – Sniping the M
Someone, and I will not mention who, forgot their helmet. So we needed to start from Aero Cafe. This is a formidable ride. Tons of climbing. From story Mill up to the junction of the Foothills trail. And then the heralding bomb down to the ravine between Sypes and the M trails. Then more climbing that wold bust anyone open. Finally a cruise to the M. The ride home on death highway was not fun with a sudden downpour. I think rain is going to be the common theme with this years series. Total riders in tonight’s group … 2. Perfect!

Like old time Montana
When I was young I loved this state because you could do these huge adventures without seeing anyone and camp where ever. We spent some time in the Lewis and Clark National Forest. Not that many people take the trek to this isolated hunk of land that includes the Little Belt Mountain Range. Little Belts as the locals call it. Heck a house in White Sulfur Springs probably is about a fourth of the cost of a place in Bozeman … maybe even a fifth.
