  • Movie Nights and Lakeside Hikes

    Movie Nights and Lakeside Hikes

Who would’ve thought that a movie night could turn into an unexpected reflection on workplace humor? That’s exactly what happened last night. Just like many of you, I found myself at Sean Downey’s house, cozied up with co-workers and friends, ready to watch the cult classic “Office Space”. Let me tell you, it was hilarious, and I couldn’t help but draw parallels to my own work life at Sikorsky. It’s funny how a movie can hit so close to home, right?

In between chuckles and popcorn, I managed to snap a cool mid-air shot of Marcy leaping for a jerky treat. It’s moments like these that remind us to appreciate the simple joys. Speaking of joys, my quest for capturing life doesn’t stop there. Tonight, I’m thinking of heading over to Maltby Lakes. It’s the perfect spot for both some serene nature shots and a bit of exercise. And who knows, maybe I’ll catch a stunning sunrise at West Haven beach tomorrow. Can you imagine the colors?

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. There’s still the second half of the workday to conquer and some web surfing to do during lunch. Stay tuned for more adventures and, of course, more snapshots of life’s unscripted moments.

  • Photo Paradox

    Photo Paradox

You know how they say, “A picture is worth a thousand words”? Well, last night, my photo collection seemed to be worth a million headaches. In a twist that only life could script, I ended up with no new photos, but a night spent wading through the digital chaos of my existing ones.

Here’s the paradox: I’ve always organized my photos with meticulous labels. Sunsets, smiles, streets, and silhouettes – each memory neatly filed under its own poetic category. But last night, as I scrolled through an ever-growing digital album, I realized that maybe, just maybe, this system was more of a maze than a map.

So, what’s a photo enthusiast to do? I’ve decided to switch to dates. Yep, good old chronological order. But as I began this mammoth task, a nagging thought crept in – is this really any better? It felt like trading a colorful tapestry for a monochrome line.

Yet, amidst this re-organization mayhem, there’s a silver lining. Tonight, I’m heading out to Sleeping Giant. Camera in hand, I’m ready to capture new memories, to add to my ever-expanding collection. Maybe I’ll snap the perfect sunset or catch a star winking through the twilight.

And here’s the thing about paradoxes – they make you think, they make you question. As I step into the night, camera ready, I wonder if the real magic of photos lies not in how we organize them, but in the moments they capture, each a tiny, frozen piece of our lives.

Tonight, as I venture into the embrace of Sleeping Giant, I’m reminded that sometimes, the beauty of life lies in its paradoxes. Here’s to finding beauty in the chaos and capturing moments that, one day, we’ll look back on and smile, no matter how they’re organized. 📸🌌🗂️

  • Sunday Drives and Lazy Saturdays

Sundays are for long drives, aren’t they? That’s what I’m planning for tomorrow – a trip in the car, destination unknown. It’s like throwing a dart at a map, but with more horsepower and less accuracy. But let’s rewind a bit to today – a Saturday that’s all about relaxation.

Picture this: a day so laid-back, even your watch takes a nap. That’s the kind of Saturday I’m having. I might watch a movie or two, the kind where you forget the plot as soon as it ends, but you remember the laughs. And let’s not forget the highlight – a nap. There’s an art to the perfect nap, a balance between ‘just enough’ and ‘oops, that was almost a full night’s sleep’.

Dinner plans? Ah, the age-old question: to cook or not to cook? Tonight, the outside world wins. I’ll venture out for some dinner, maybe something that makes me say, “Wow, I didn’t know food could do that!”

Phone calls? Well, it’s been a quiet day on that front. Had a brief chat with my buddy Paul. You know those conversations that end too soon and leave you wanting more? It was one of those. Tried reaching out to a few others, but it seems like I’m playing phone tag without the tag part.

Tomorrow’s car trip is still a mystery, and that’s the beauty of it. Maybe I’ll end up somewhere breathtaking, or maybe I’ll find the world’s best sandwich in a small town diner. Who knows? That’s Sunday for you – full of potential and low on plans.

    Mystery Gift and Moonlit Trails

Ever had one of those days that just sticks with you? Today was one for me. Thanks to Paul, Lucy, and Niko, I’m now the proud owner of a… well, let’s call it a “mountain top marker thingy.” The name might be a bit elusive, but the excitement isn’t!

As the evening settled in, I laced up my running shoes and headed towards West Rock. There’s something magical about night runs – the way the moonlight dances through the trees, the quiet hum of the world at rest, and the cool air that seems to invigorate with every breath.

Reaching the summit was a journey of its own. Every step brought a mix of anticipation and awe. And there it was, the night view from West Rock, a panoramic spectacle of twinkling city lights and stars competing for attention. It’s a sight that never gets old, but tonight, it felt extra special.

I can’t wait for the days to stretch longer, to see this view in the lingering twilight. It’s moments like these that remind us of the simple joys of life – a thoughtful gift, a run in the moonlight, and the promise of many more adventures to come.

Grabbing a movie to wind down the day feels just about right. Until next time, keep finding joy in the little things.

Navigating the Ups and Downs of January

It’s January 7, 2003, and the winter blues have cast a shadow over my spirits. Today was a bit rough, and even my usual workout couldn’t find its place in my routine. Work has a way of seeping into your well-being, leaving you a touch deflated.

Seeking a distraction, I turned to the adrenaline-fueled world of ‘K2’. The movie’s gripping narrative and snow-capped challenges were a welcome escape from the day’s lows. If you haven’t seen it, imagine the thrill of conquering towering peaks from your living room — it’s a journey in itself.

Now, as the night draws in, there’s one last flicker of hope for a turn in fortune — the lottery. I’m off to check the results, fingers crossed, hoping for a win to lift the spirits.

Remember, we all have those days, and sometimes, a good film and the thrill of chance are all you need to edge back to a brighter side. Who knows, today could be your lucky day!

So, here’s to finding that little oasis of warmth and comfort in the middle of a cold West Haven winter. A place where a steaming cup of coffee and the cozy corners can make even the coldest days seem a bit more bearable.

Burlington Bound: From Desert Views to City Blues

There’s something magical about capturing a fleeting moment from a moving car, a snapshot of a train chugging along in the vast desert. That’s exactly what I did for Niko, a testament to the spontaneity of travel and the joy of unexpected sights. But as the dust of the desert settles, my mind wanders to Burlington. Ah, Burlington, with its vibrant streets and cozy corners – a perfect plan for an upcoming weekend.

Yet, here I am, back from my adventures, and oh boy, I’ve brought back more than memories. I’m sicker than a dog, voice gone, ears aching, and my neck? Let’s just say it’s competing with my head in size. Work? Not today. It’s a day off for recovery.

In the midst of this, I’m buzzing about my new camera. It’s an upgrade from the Kodak EasyShare 4200 I’ve been using. Speaking of which, it’s up for grabs – $150 with all the bells and whistles, or $100 for just the basics. This little trooper comes with a case, lithium batteries, USB cables, a video patch, a 64MB memory card, and more. It’s been my faithful companion for 3 months, but now it’s time to pass it on. If you’re itching to try it out before diving into a new purchase, just give me a holler.

Why the change? I got my hands on a Fuji 3800. This beauty boasts a 6X optical zoom and 3.2 megapixels. It can even shoot digital movies with sound and add voice commentary – a feature that’s sure to make Mom laugh (or roll her eyes). Remember my frustration in Arizona? When every captivating scene seemed just out of reach? That’s history now. Even though I’m under the weather and can’t test it out at the lakes, I’m excited. Those elusive deer won’t stand a chance next time.

I snagged this gem from Ritz Camera for $400. A bit of a dent in the wallet, but hey, some stuff’s got to go. The old camera, an extra mountain bike, and that ancient computer are on the chopping block. It’s all about balance, right? Even if it means a little chat with CITI (guilty as charged).

So, here I am, bundled up, resting, and daydreaming about the adventures to come with my new Fuji. If only I had a partner in crime to share these moments. But for now, I’ll rest, recover, and get ready for the next escapade. Burlington, I’m coming for you!

  • Feeling What I Need To Feel

Ever had one of those days where doing nothing feels like the best thing ever? I’m right there with you. This weekend was all about embracing the bliss of nothingness. And let me tell you, it’s not as easy as it sounds!

So, here’s the thing. I’ve been a bit of a ghost on my blog lately. Call it a hiatus, a break, or maybe just a case of the ‘I-don’t-know-what-to-say’s. But here I am, making my grand return to blogging. And what better way to kick things off than by sharing my profound journey of doing absolutely zilch?

Last week was a blank slate. No grand adventures, no epic tales. Just me, myself, and I, hanging out and letting the feelings flow. Sometimes, you’ve just got to take a step back and feel what needs to be felt, right?

But here’s the kicker. Whenever I open up about my feelings, I’m bombarded with an avalanche of well-meaning but slightly overwhelming nurturing. “I can help!” they say, as if I’m a puzzle that needs solving. So, I’m thinking it’s time to play my cards a bit closer to my chest.

Anyway, not all is quiet on the western front. I’m prepping for a trip to Arizona for Christmas. Yep, trading my routine of doing nothing for a little holiday adventure. Stay tuned for tales from the Grand Canyon State!

And remember, it’s okay to just be sometimes. To sit back, relax, and let life happen. After all, sometimes the best stories come from the art of doing nothing at all.

  • Going to Binghampton For Thanksgiving

It has been a while. My job is getting very hectic. I have taken quite a few new pictures so don’t forget to visit my photos page.

Going on a trip to Binghamton NY tomorrow so I must prepare all day today. My cars interior lights are not working and it is dirty. Also I need a haircut and Marcy needs a bath. On top of all that I have to prove that I am a US citizen today here at work.

Well enjoy…the picture for today is the beach here in West Haven on a Sunday morning.

  • Went Hiking!

Went hiking last night for the second night in a row and did a new section of the Quinepiac trail.
  • Sunrise Pictures

This weekend I did a sunrise hike and got some great shots. Go to my photos page and click on 'all new'.

  • Sleeping Giant

    Sleeping Giant

Nothing quite compares to the magic of a sunset on the Sleeping Giant trail. This shot catches that perfect moment when the sun dips low, casting its golden glow just before giving way to twilight. The ridge is gently illuminated, while the sky fades from vibrant warmth to dusky purples and blues.

It’s one of those scenes that makes every step worth it, sweat and all. Each photo from this hike tells a different part of the story, but this one really captures the calm that settles in right as day turns to night.

  • Haloween Baby!

Hey, check it out. The picture today is made by my mom. Today is halloween here at Sikorsky and we all dressed up in suits and ties. We look like gangsters. I think I am planning to go up to Plattsburgh this weekend, but I am not sure yet. I amy just need to stay home and get caught up with some laundry and cleaning of the house, car, and dog!

  • Deer Spotting, No Camera

    Deer Spotting, No Camera

Just got back from a run, and you won’t believe it—I ran into a massive 9-point buck! Four points on one side, five on the other, and he just stood there, practically posing, a solid 25 feet away. Of course, that would be the one day I didn’t bring my camera. Classic, right?

I’ll share a photo of a deer I caught there another time (might even be the same guy, who knows?). But this one—up close in all his glory—well, he’ll just have to live on in memory.

  • Thoughts on Thanksgiving

    Thoughts on Thanksgiving

    Good morning, everyone!

Looks like there’s a good chance I’ll be hiking upstate in New York with Paul soon—just in time to really feel that cold snap. Thanksgiving is set for Binghamton with the crew, and there’s talk of possibly making it up to Plattsburgh after. I definitely need to touch base with Tim and Karen to plan a hike up Marcy; sunrise photos from there would be worth every shiver.

For now, though, the mountains can wait, off to the cafeteria to see if they’ve got anything worth the trek downstairs. Nothing too exciting on my end, besides winter finally setting in! Stay warm out there.

  • New Picture Server

Just got done with my picture server. Check it out here.
