  • Coffee Time

This mornings run was absolutely the hardest day to get out this year. I did not want to get out of bed at 6. It took me 6 minutes to get my shoes on. It was dark for most of the run with the latter part of the loop getting lighter. The lake was very pretty as dawn broke. Well Kostia wants to get coffee, so signing off for now.

  • Night Ride

I just got back from my mountain bike ride.

Throwback to summer, when the days were long, the trails dusty, and our spirits as high as the endless Connecticut rocks. Those were the times when every ride was an invitation to adventure, and the photo with that classic Volkswagen New Beetle, bikes at the ready, captured the essence of anticipation.

As the summer waned and we transitioned into the cooler evenings of October, the rides took on a new character. From the crisp air of dusk to the utter silence of night, we were not just chasing the trails but also racing the sunset, squeezing every last drop of daylight out of the sky before succumbing to the cloak of darkness.

The darkness of those October nights was a stark contrast to the bright, lively rides of summer. Yet, it was in these contrasting experiences that the true essence of mountain biking revealed itself — not just in the visible joy of a sunny day’s ride but also in the exhilarating uncertainty of a nocturnal journey.

The summer may have given us the perfect backdrop for those initial rides, but October brought with it a different kind of beauty, one that was felt with every pedal stroke into the unknown. It’s in these moments of reflection that we realize how the rides of summer set the stage for the adventures that only autumn’s darkness could provide.

Keep chasing the horizon, day or night,

  • Real Funky Today

Haha, feeling a bit all over the place today, huh? Sounds like you’re wrestling with the whole “embrace the chaos” vibe. Riding your bike to outrun the gloomy, fall vibe is such a mood. I get you on the whole tree situation—once those leaves hit the ground, it’s like a scene from a spooky, deserted movie. But hey, the Grateful Dead? That’s a classic trip, even if you’re just warming up to them.

Pizza at noon? Now that’s something to jazz up anyone’s spirits! Last night might’ve been a flop for cycling (we’ve all been there, suddenly finding ourselves too cozy to move), but pizza is a solid game plan for recovery.

Time to gear up and dive into the day, right? “Suck it up” and let’s get the ball rolling. Work’s calling, but at least there’s pizza on the horizon!

Well the floor is in and it”s beautiful and went down like we were pros! The hood turned out great and is on its way back end tonight and hopefully the stove tomorrow and also the baseboards and then I”ll take pictures. I”m not kidding it looks great and were very proud of it and made it all worth it. Also a health note my ear is doing good and has healed nicely but still have to wait to get clearance for altitude. Also this weekend ordered my new glasses, the first pair since all the surgery thats taken a year and a half, and they”ll be ready the fifteenth.

  • Best described as CRAPPY!

I did get good sleep last night and I did go on a morning run. So what is wrong? I don't know. I went to make a smoothie this morning and my roommate's trash fell all over and once again it looked like I was going to be late because I had to clean up a mess created by his lazy lifestyle. It is so unhealthy an I at least try to keep my eating areas clean.

Well I lost my temper and decided to not clean his shit up and I threw the towel on top and went to work without breakfast.

I got good breakfast at work. Actually I got biscuits and gravy and a bacon egg, and cheese sandwich. Now someone just brought in some cake! So why is it crappy? Well .. maybe it isn't! Its just Monday so get off my butt about it alright!

  • Paul, Lucy, Saratoga

It rained all the way to Saratoga. The day started out with a good morning coffee call from a good friend. I got a late start but made it on time. Meet up with Paul and Lucy at the Prime Hotel and went to Uncommon Ground and had coffee. After that we enjoyed a cone at the Ben and Jerries store. Then We strolled main street. Paul and Lucy went to a party and I took a nap watched a movie and went for a walk around town. This evening we went to watch Under the Tuscan Sun, which I may add was a very good movie.

Turn the page to Sunday. I got up early and went running and took Marcy for a morning jaunt. When I got back to the motel room Paul and Lucy were still sleeping. I showered and took off to take some pictures around town. Check them out in the photo section. I got a little carried away and got a cell phone call from Paul. We went to breakfast at a place downtown. I had a great breakfast and we chatted about love and life. We parted after a nice rest.

  • Looking For a Good Time in Saratoga Springs

Finally at work and the shift begins. In 8 glorious hours I will be released into the weekend world.

This weekend Is going to be great. I am meeting up with friends Paul and Lucy for a good time in Saratoga Springs NY. Not betting on horses, too cold for that. Not racing the NY state mountain bike championships, that was ten years ago. What I am doing is relaxing, drinking, good wine, eating good food, and stopping in at every little nook to read or relax. Oh yea, and go on a couple hikes.

Now on to this mornings business. What the hell is all the ice about. I am now using my heated seats in my car and the temp control has been turned to heat. The the hell has come over this earth. Oh yea, I forgot. Its Fall, soon to be winter. I am already working on a winter theme for williammartin.com so stay tuned. Well it is bagel day at work so must focus on the roundness of my smile!

  • Good Morning Friend

The sun has risen bright and beautiful. I was thinking during my morning run. I run at Maltby lakes and in the morning it is the most beautiful place. I thought to myself this is beautiful then I wondered. Would I trade it in for a simple good morning from a friend. I thought of this because as I turned to leave my favorite spot I said good morning lake. But the lake did not respond. The answer is that I would trade anything in for the beauty of human kindness and companionship. So good morning to all my friends, I miss you.

  • F-ing Off

Ok, now I am really really pissed off and very depressed. I came home from work to go riding, get groceries, do my finances, and finally play a little NHL 2004 or watch a movie. Guess what I did? Fudging nothing! Just sat here at my computer screwing around with this website. Arrrgh! I am such a loser.

  • Scattered Thoughts

Chillin’ at work with Coldplay tunes in my ears, “God Put a Smile on Your Face” is setting the vibe.

Man, running this morning was like jogging through the heart of darkness, even darker than yesterday. Yep, fall’s knocking on our doors, folks.

Got a trip to Glens Falls this weekend – psyched to catch my first eyeful of those autumn colors.

And jeez, today’s run was freezing! Went full Eskimo mode with hat and gloves. Total brrr moment.

Got a staff meeting at 9. Talk about snooze fest central. It’s the weekly drudge.

Movie night’s on the radar, but it’s all up in the air. Depends on Lisa. If she’s in, I’m in. My roomie’s buried in school stuff, and I’m not tight with the others. Plus, with the construction circus in my street adding a solid hour to my commute, I’m not exactly jumping for joy.

Feeling pretty fed up, got this itch to just pack up and leave. But hey, ranting’s one thing, rushing off’s another.

Seems like my pals Paul and Lucy are bailing on our annual CT rendezvous, and it’s hitting me hard. They’re my only visitors in this neck of the woods. Guess it’s time to look for new horizons.

Feeling like a square peg in CT. These folks just aren’t my tribe. Time to scout for a new gig and a place where I blend in. Ugh, job hunting – my favorite… not.

  • Room Mate Blues

It is only 7:47 and it feels like 10. I am already feeling the pressure of time and the week has just begun. Things are already getting onmy nerves like my roomate. He put a coke in the freezer and it exploded on me this morning. Then he left for work and set the house alarm on so Ill have to dash to the terminal before the alarm goes offf. JERK. The morning run is dark and cold. It is like starting all over again. I dont feel as strong as I did last week. I must have peeked and now after recouvering from near overtraining it feels like I am out of shape. I know this will pass too. Well I dont have time to get into any daily thoughts as I must run off to the stupid job accross the river.

    Todays Mood ==> ANGRY

  • Another Rainy Day

Today it rained. It rained a lot. I did my usual. I went to Starbucks to get a scone and coffee. After I wondered around looking for a photo opportunity I finally settled on a shot in Milford. Then I went to the mall. I had some breakfast and shopped until I found the new NHL 2004 game that i always get. I thought to myself, what a perfect day to play games. So that is what i did. Now my hand is cramped and I lost every game so far. Oh well, it is fun. the game is definitely an upgrade from last year. Some of the visuals are absolutely stunning. In other news I implemented a chat room so that when some people meet here on my site we can all chat without using the chat box which doesn’t refresh and can get bogged down.

  • New Pictures

"Ghost"It is not one of my best photography days. I went down to West Haven Beach to watch the sunrise. I waited and waited and the sun never came up. It was too overcast and foggy for the sun this morning. I took a couple shots but none too spectacular. The best one is a panoramic shot. One photo I kept purely because it used contrast very well and the picture stirred some knind of emotion in me. I have not yet figured it out yet.

  • Sunshine, Setbacks, and Spooky Themes: A Thursday Reflection

Wednesday night, I couldn’t resist loving this new picture of Melinda and her car (will not post here). My ex, Ronda, sent it my way, and I knew the family would get a kick out of it. Check it out if you haven’t already!

Sunrise paints the sky this morning, and I sip my smoothie, feeling optimistic. Town meeting got pushed to tomorrow, so here I am at home, playfully contemplating a “sick day.” Just kidding, of course!

But work threw a curveball yesterday. Apparently, everyone gets promoted after a year, which is company policy. I’ve been here two and a half! Guess my choices haven’t aligned with expectations. I don’t do the overtime my boss loves, summer vacations are frowned upon, and taking sick days…well, you get the picture. Even participating in their “voluntary” charity drive factors in. Strange, right?

Anyway, venting over. Last night’s mountain bike ride was rough, despite just being happy to get out. I felt awful, climbing like a snail (not that there’s anything wrong with snails!). Darkness caught me, and I had to take the roads back. Night riding isn’t far off, though!

Here’s a thought: We can’t erase memories, but we can heal from them, especially anger. Anyone want to share their experiences?

Speaking of change, I’m tinkering with a new fall theme for the blog. Check it out under “Select Themes” on the bottom left. It’s called “dvx v1.0,” featuring my morning running spot, Maltby Lakes, all decked out in autumn colors with a hint of Halloween.

Did you know we have different themes? Each user can choose from 12! Feeling nostalgic for a past theme? Go ahead and set it back. Though, with me, themes tend to change like the wind…wacky, right?

This post might be a mixed bag, but that’s life, I guess. Family, work, health, hobbies, and even a little tech thrown in – it’s all part of the journey. Thanks for joining me along the way!

  • Good Dog Marcy

Chillin’ here, smoothie in hand, as the sun peeks over my left shoulder—what a vibe. Had a killer morning run, and guess what? Marcy was an absolute champ. We bumped into a couple of dogs, and she didn’t even think about chasing them. No leash needed. Marcy, you’re a star!

Kicked off the day a tad late, but not as sluggish as before. Managed to snag a solid 8 hours of Z’s last night, and I’m feeling a whole lot brighter because of it. Now that I’m getting back into the swing of things, fitness-wise, I’ve got this itch to start a blog. Track the usual suspects: morning pulse, weight, mood, and throw in some workout deets to tailor a training blueprint and monitor the gains. Just tossing the idea around.

But hey, can’t dilly-dally too long. Off to grind, and oh, it’s Panda House Day. Hello, deliciousness!

  • Can Not Sleep!

    Snacks Anyone – 12:41am

Could not sleep so I got up to find a snack. Found none. I played a bowling game on this site. Some games are pretty fun. Well it is time to try to sleep again. I have not slept very well for a week and a half now. I wonder what the heck is going on????

    Smoothie a Little Off – 5:23am

The morning smoothie is a little off but none the less good. Running was very very tough to get through. It seemed like midnight and I also could not ssleep all night. This changing of the seasons is really tough on me. The world still churns and I must get to work. Todays plans include movie night out with friends and a possible bike ride after work.

    Todays mood ==> WEIRDED OUT

UPDATE: Tonights bike ride went absolutely awesome. I felt good throughout. It dosent seem as though I stayed awake all night. The trick now is to get some sleep. I dont think I will have a problem because of right now I am so content. Worked out hard for a couple of hours then ate Pasta and a beer. holy-hooooo oood Time!

2:03pm Hijacked my roommates frozen pizza : Feeling a little better once I have hijacked my roommates frozen pizza. I sat down and did some things to the site. I hope people don’t get offended that I have stats showing last visitors…..I like it. 2003-09-22 14:03:04 -0600

1:17pm Putting a lid on broadband use By John Borland CNET News.com September 22, 2003, 4:00 AM PT

Earlier this month, a Philadelphia Comcast broadband subscriber got a letter from his service provider, telling him he”d been using the Internet too much. Keith, who asked to keep his full name private, said he”d subscribed to the service for four years and never had a complaint before. Now he was being labeled a network “abuser.” Worse, he said, Comcast refused to tell him how much downloading was allowed under his contract. A customer service representative had told him there was no specific cap, he said, adding that he might avoid being suspended if he cut his bandwidth usage in half. But even then, the lack of a hard number gave Keith no guarantee.

6:29am Tomorrow I Will Attack : I am already late for work. It seems the less I do on the weekends the more depressed I get. I have to really get out of town next weekend. Plus all this week I plan to make a comeback. Today I will be tired so I will attack modestly. Today’s main task is a bike ride this evening. The second main task is to be sleeping by 9PM. The third main task is to get some groceries. Tomorrow I will attack the laundry and house. Well that is my plan.

1:27am So I did it again : I have successfully stayed up the entire night working on this damn web site. Not a very good start to the new week. It is going to be an extra ordinary struggle to get caught up on my sleep, health, and work this week not to mention all the things that have to be done around the house. That’s it, time for bed … but it is so depressing to know that I only get to sleep 2 hours before I have to get up for work.

7:41pm Today was a beautiful day out : I must think that it should of been appreciated more than it was. I spent most of the day relaxing and organizing my music on my mp3 player.I went biking at West Rock Ridge and once again the trails were fantastic. What a day. I was supposed to go play tennis with friend Lilia, Monica, and Kostia but they all took a rain check. Sick and eating too much was the culprits. Oh well, next weekend I have things planned so I am sure the weather will not cooperate. Goodnight.

7:08pm Hmmmm, Another Type of Blogger : I just tried to implement another type of blogger. But you know what. I am really enjoying this forum to use as blogger. You can see my last posts on the main page and the search will search this forum while the other blogger it will not. Want to see an example. Go to Links.
