Ever heard of Fort Worden State Park? Sure, it’s known for its historic military installations and stunning Puget Sound views. But wait till I tell you about its lesser-known, spine-chilling side – the haunted campground!
It all started with a dare. My friends and I, always up for an adventure, decided to spend a night at the infamous campground. Rumor had it that the spirits of past soldiers still roamed the area. I was skeptical, but hey, who doesn’t like a good ghost story?
As night fell, the usual chirping of crickets was oddly absent. The only sound was the rustling of leaves, or so we thought. Settling around the campfire, we started sharing ghost stories. That’s when things got eerie. We heard footsteps – heavy, dragging footsteps. There was no one else around, or so we believed.
The bravest of us, Jake, decided to investigate. Armed with nothing but a flashlight and a whole lot of courage, he ventured into the darkness. Minutes felt like hours as we waited. Suddenly, a blood-curdling scream shattered the silence. We ran towards the sound, hearts pounding.
There was Jake, pale as a ghost, pointing towards the barracks. He stammered about seeing a shadowy figure, with eyes that glowed like embers. We didn’t stick around to verify his story.
Racing back to our tents, the night air felt heavy, as if charged with electricity. That night, every sound made us jump. Was it just the wind, or something more… spectral?
Morning couldn’t come soon enough. We left at first light, our curiosity thoroughly quenched. Whether it was our imagination or something beyond explanation, our night at Fort Worden’s haunted campground was unforgettable.
