Mom’s Final Surprise

Mom always wanted us to get together as a family, but I was never a fan of sacrificing my summer weekends for reunions. Well, mom got the last laugh. After she passed away, we all gathered to say goodbye and I had some unexpected reunions.

First, I reconnected with my biological father, Ronnie, whom I hadn’t seen in nearly 20 years. He was at the funeral and we had a chance to catch up. It was surreal and wonderful.

Second, I met my biological daughter, Melinda, whom I hadn’t seen in 25 years. She came up from Wyoming to meet me and we had an instant connection. We are so much alike it’s weird … but really fantastic.

Myself, Melinda, Felicity, Isaiah, and Jeramy (the Sotos) … hope I got it all right?

Thanks to mom’s ultimate get together, I rediscovered my family and learned to appreciate the moments we have. Life is full of surprises and sometimes they are the best gifts. Mom, you were right all along. Family is everything.

*I hope you enjoyed the story. These two reunions were not the only ones that touched me. I had fun seeing you all at mom’s funeral. If you’re not here, it’s not a diss. You’re all amazing.
