Last night we had 13 riders out at the trails on Jumbo Saddle, Marshall Grade, and Woods Gulch. I don't think that the latter sections are in any kind of shape to ride but if you stay in on the trails that get sun shine you will be fine. Check out Aaron's Photos, I will be posting a video and photos some day as well.
We started out riding over the saddle to the Marshall Grade. Up the grade we went but I don't know why some figure this to be a huge task. It is an easy grade and my only gripe is that it is in the shade (cold).
Then we came to the 3 Larch hike-a-thon. It was ride 100 feet, hike a 100 feet. Going down the trail to Woods Gulch I gave up and just rode through the woods were there was no snow. We should of not been out there this time of year.
The came the best part. The Woods Gulch Poop Soup Trail. The trail out and down to the Rattlesnake was a big sheet of crusty slushy ice. Embedded in this ice was dog poop. Of course the melted stuff ..... well you get the picture. PEW!
After that we road to the cars. On the way I encountered a deer and it let me take a movie of it as I rode past it. At one point I thought it was going to reach out and sniff my camera. Very cool!
After chatting with my friend Ross about the up and coming big race weekend and oiling up my chain I headed over to the saddle and back to the Marshall Canyon drainage. My plan was to ride over to do the Deer Creek Sneak.
It was getting dark on the logging road that connects Deer Creek to the Pattee Canyon Trails. I pushed a little harder then my knee (previously injured in last weekends race) pushed back. It started aching. I couldn't stand and pedaling was becoming quite painful. Now I am stressing about this weekends race.
Well, it got dark and my decision was to coast down the Pattee Canyon Road and back home. It was real chilly and my fingers started to freeze. I could wait to get home and prepare for the next days ride. I had given up on this one.
Once home I realized that I had no water to clean up or get warm again. My hot water heater had shit the bed in the morning and so I did a little spit bath clean-up attempt and plopped down in bed exhausted.
