Last night rain threatened to null the
Thursday Night Ride but as I approached the trailhead at Crazy Canyon it was apparent that spring fever had captured everyone's heart and numerous people showed up ready to ride (8 of us). The rain even started and it seemed that a dousing was in order. No one really noticed and soon the rain was a non-factor and even stopped.
We climbed up the Crazy Canyon Road and eventually climbed to the top of Mount Sentinel. The view was great and we all enjoyed it except for one rider that decided that the climbing was just too much and went home.
We bombed down and hit a section of single track. I noticed that my bike was handling a little loose. I don't know why but I figure the front shock was so blown out that it has become dangerous. There was more mud involved in last nights ride than we have ever had and that I had ever had out West.
Just above the parking lot I had to bomb past some riders that were going slow because my back brakes were wore down and I was tired of wearing them off constantly breaking behind the slower riders. After the muddy pass I started sliding everywhere and tried my best to keep up right. Suddenly I slid out and towards a stump as my bike totally threw me over the bars.
I slid into a stump and mud. I slid for a while and popped back up to finish the ride. This morning my hand hurts but I survived the crash pretty well. My bike needs the headset rebuilt and the back brakes needs replacement. The ride lasted about an hour and 20 minutes with numerous rest stops. Next ride will be from Lincoln Hills Drive Trailhead.
