Ski Race At Lubrecht Forest

I got up this morning and grabbed myself a cup of coffee and suddenly I felt I need to blog. Then something happened that usually happens. I found a flaw on my front page. In the new posts list there were duplicates. So I set out to fix and now I have it fixed. So enjoy my efforts by using that list to see whats new at the lodge. Ok, let's move on to todays events.

Lubrecht Forest is owned by the University of Montana and lies on Rte 200 around 29 miles from Missoula [click here ] for map where I think it is.

"Regarding Sunday's Fun Race, the event WILL happen, but the plan has been revised somewhat: We will hold a single, freestyle race (approx. 7k in length). Classic technique is allowed, but there won't be any tracks set (sorry Mike!). The emphases will be on fun and participation. Start time is noon; entry fee is a batch of cookies, brownies, or similar fare to share with your racemates. After the main race and cookie feast, we'll hold a kid's race and some sprints on our 0.5k practice loop if sufficient demand exists. Registration will take place from 10:45 to 11:45 in the skier parking area. So, please make plans to join us at Lubrecht on Sunday for some fun and great skiing!" ~http://missoulanordic.org/

Other that that I went hiking yesterday for two hours up University Mountain to the Beacon. It was a pain getting to that point due to a bailing out on ski plans and going back to town for hiking boot. In the end I felt some spirituality out of the setting sun and Marcy got out to demonstrate her snow skills.

The woman gracious enough to time our race had a mechanical with her pen (it was cold and it froze) so the results are a little sketchy. The race was 8.5K and the loop was a great little course. Some hills and some great little fast drawn out sections. The course even had a little steeper. My time was 32:49 a full 10 minutes behind the leaders. My friend Alden (drove me there, thanks Alden!) came in just behind me. After the race we had cookies and coco by the fireplace in the main rec hall. Good times.
