Death on Higgins

Yea, everyone is talking about the Rolling Stones concert and how good it was. But what about the driver of a out of town concert goer that was driving a Chevrolet Avalanche and rolled over a 14 year old riding his bike. I know the danger all to well of cycling in Missoula. Overall drivers in Missoula are real good and the bike lanes make it a town for commuters. But there are a few that just refuse to share the road and too many times I have had to take evasive actions to save my life. It was just 2 weeks ago that a truck tried to end my life on deer Creek Road and I barely survived by holding my ground till the last minute before putting the bike to the ditch and ducking under its out hanging rear view mirrors.

A 14-year-old Hellgate High School freshman hit by a pickup truck earlier this week died Wednesday evening.

I am not saying it is the drivers fault but it is hard not to make some judgements given that most people coming from the concert are distracted. I don't agree that we need to give all the responsibility to the drivers of vehicles. I believe it is my responsibility to be totally aware of everything around me. I ride defensively as if it is me against them!
