Sawmill Gulch to Curry Gulch Loop
This is a great little loop if you just want to get a quick but great mountain bike workout in. It features great climbing single track and jeep trail. The downhill is very fast but not too technical. The only drawback is that it is a well liked trail and one may encounter a lot of traffic. This loop is a good get aquainted loop and great experiences can be had fom this loop on. The possanilities are endless but dogs are not welcome here.
You start out up sawmill gulch. This is a twisty but slight uphill singletrack that skirts the main road. Once to the trailhead of Sawmill Gulch you will follow the jeep trail through the big meadow and in which I saw a deer crossing while I was there last. The trail passes a trail to the right that snakes its way up to the same destination that this trail provides. It is suggested that it is too streniuos but I did it the next day and loved it. Great views and a huge climb ... which I like.
The trail turns to single track as you reach a section of jeep track that was reclaimed into the natural surroundings. In its place is a new single track that skirts the hillside up to the Right hand turn and where the main hillclimb starts. On top take a left then vier to the right as if you were cutting over to curry cabin (rte 281 I believe).
The downhill is fast and watch out for the rubber watterbars when it is wet. Hitting one with your front tire is stupid! When you reach the curry cabin trail stay right and contiue down into curry gulch. Continue down and joining the stewart peak trail then finally going back to the car merging right onto the main rattlesnake corridor trail.
