03/26/06 RACE: Devils Slide (Lewiston ID) 3.00 30 3,500 RACE w/ Pre-Ride 4 Laps, 6 mile loop with 700 ft. climbing per lap. Felt decent considering my cycling break but at the end (last 2 laps) I died and felt really exhausted. I need to work on my climbing! 3rd place (1:45:30)!

03/30/06 Pattee to Deer Creek to S. Miss. 1.50 18.3 1,572 E2 - Endurance Another just for fun recovery ride. Had a big stressful day at work and was supposed to ride a bigger ride so this was a last minute get-out-and-ride type of ride. Felt good until some climbs near the end.





04/01/06 Broadway to Butler Creek Loop 1.50 22.15 730 M1 - Tempo Got caught up in a huge storm with hail. Started out a refreshing recovery ride and turned into a race for life time trial.





04/02/06 Mullan to Rocky Mountain Roubeux 4.00 67.6 1,544 F1 - Hilly Endurance Felt real good all the way to the 3 hour mark then started to dwindle. My joints felt bad, couldn’t stand very well. It was a good ride and the weather was great. Would be a bad ride with wind.





04/04/06 Swartz Creek Run 2.75 45.4 1,200 S - Spin Rec Ride Felt pretty decent at the start and at the very end. In the middle felt sluggish and throughout my right knee started really hurting with spazims in the joint. My knee is presently real sore.





04/05/06 Blackfoot River Run 1.50 30 1,800 M1 - Tempo Could not keep heart rate in the upper 140s. I think we are on the edge pf pvertraining. I would say no more anaerobic workouts for the rest of the week.





04/06/06 Thursday Night Ride (Blue Mtn) 3.00 27.6 4,109 E2 - Endurance Rode from work. We had record rain in Missoula and I found myself wet the entire night and hungry. Definitely end of the line and time for rest.





04/09/06 Lolo Pass Ride 4.50 75 8,999 F1 - Hilly Endurance To say the least, well at least two big hills. Still felt a little raw at the beginning. After the turn around I found myself motivated. I had a spirited climb even though a week ago I would of hit a wall. I finished real strong.





04/11/06 Blackfoot River Run 1.75 34 1,590 S - Spin Rec Ride It was windy so some of the ride felt sluggish while other parts felt real easy. It was cold but overall a good recovery ride.





04/12/06 Blackfoot River Run 1.75 35 1,600 E2 - Endurance Yesterdays ride would have been great except the wind was extreme with gusts to over 30 MPH. Coming back to town may have fried me.





04/13/06 Thursday Night Ride (Treasure) 1.00 7.6 1,998 E1 – Recovery Had a nice spin with the group but at the end crashed hard into a stump. A day later I am sore but not from exercise.





04/16/06 Chief Joseph Road Ride 2.50 31.14 4,402 E2 - Endurance Reached the pass at 7,258 and had to turn around due to a snow storm. Almost froze and got hypothermia on the way back down. Very dangerous.





04/18/06 Schwartz Creek Run 2.40 39 1,000 S - Spin Rec Ride Felt good and the form was also good. At the end harassed a road rider and got my heart rate to AT levels all the way from East Missoula including the hill. Went too hard.





04/19/06 Marshall Canyon Road 1.75 22.37 2,517 F2 - Big Ring Climbs My form felt a little off although the sun was out and it felt great to be out climbing on the bike. About half way through the workout I really bogged down. I pushed through.





04/20/06 Thursday Night Ride (Marshall Grade) 4.00 27.04 4,767 E2 – Endurance This ride went on too long and I slipped up and went out of zone 2 heart rate.





04/22/06 Pintler Road Ride 5.25 82 7,046 M1 - Tempo Went to hard at the beginning but was cycling during a race and wanted to look good. Fell apart after hour 2 (Cliff Bar No Good). After choking down Otwalla Bars felt recovered after 45 minutes and lots of water. Finished real strong especially at the t





04/23/06 Deer Creek Sneak 2.00 18.24 3,394 E2 - Endurance Rode with a group and we met after for ice cream. Felt pretty good and kept heart rate pretty reasonable although kept up with the leaders mostly.





04/25/06 Blackfoot River Run 3.25 60 3,000 S - Spin Rec Ride Went pretty far and set a 1.5 hour record ... reason was the wind and had a terrible time getting home. May have over trained





04/26/06 Marshall Canyon Road 1.50 22 2,500 F2 - Big Ring Climbs Felt real bad and form wasn't good. In the end I was able to climb fast but still feel over trained.





04/27/06 Thursday Night Ride (Rattlesnake) 3.00 25 3,900 E2 - Endurance Felt over trained but tried to keep heart rate under 145.





04/29/06 Triple Divide Ride 5.10 85 6,700 M1 -Tempo Went as anaerobic as I could. Climbs seemed way harder than usual and could t withstand bigger gears. Non the less went pretty fast. Definitely over trained Need to rest well this week.





04/30/06 Larry Creek Loop to Lolo 3.00 34.5 1,347 E2 - Endurance Started out as a recovery 1 hour ride and turned into a 3 hour spin. I felt pretty strong even though I had a wicked sun burn. Today is the 2nd day in a row I had to use Excedrin ... time for a break.

05/07/06 Calf Creek MTB Ride 2.00 8 1,000 E1 – Recovery Didn't do the ride correctly and my annoyance at that sends me a message that I am over trained a bit. The Big Hole Haunts me.





05/09/06 New Bike Test Ride 0.75 7 900 A4 – Lactate Tol reps Tested the new Leader Bike. It climbed like a deer although I think I pushed too hard.





05/10/06 Rattlesnake Corridor 2.00 16 700 E2 – Recovery Ride didn't seem right as the seat was too low. Don't feel right or strong. I think stress is getting to me. Its my last day at work.





05/11/06 Thursday Night Ride (Sidewinder) 1.50 8 1,200 F2 - Big Ring Climbs Went way too hard on the initial climb. I guess I was showing off. I felt really tired after the ride. Stress!





05/13/06 Coyote Creek 1.75 8 1,500 E1 – Recovery Felt good to get out ans spin. I didn't push the envelope today and for the first time felt good on the bike.





05/14/06 Thompson's Pass Ride 2.55 46 5,000 Race Pace Ride Climbed pretty strong although feeling worn for the last 5 miles. I went strong from the start and finished real strong. Pretty good effort. Did not feel comfortable on the bike though.





05/16/06 Treasure Ride 1.60 11 2,000 M3 – Hill Cruise Ints Climbed in middle ring and third time was very difficult so I finished the treasure ride.

05/18/06 Thursday Night Ride (Treasure & Sam Braxton) 3.00 15.5 3,000 P2 – Hill Sprints Sprints went a little too long and also the distance and time were WAY too much. I just hope I didn't screw up the Billings Race.





05/20/06 Pre-Ride Billings Race 1.00 5 50 Pre-Ride Very disappointed with the course and the cyclocross/crit style race plan. Feel pretty good!





05/21/06 RACE: Cow Pie Classique (Billings MT) 2.00 26 100 RACE Felt good and finished strong considering the extreme heat during the race. I won my race and thought I done well only to find out later that I had not done as well as expected. Need a lot more training and weight loss.

05/25/06 Thursday Night Ride (Midtower) 1.00 12.2 3,116 E2 - Endurance Only went over my HR plan on the steep climb between roads at the top. Otherwise a great spin. Ran all the creek crossings to the amusement of the others.





05/27/06 East Missoula MTB Loop 1.50 12.6 1,500 E2 - Endurance Went on a tremendously wet ride with a friend. Rode the K2 and got near hypothermia Almost passed out in the shower. Something is wrong.





05/28/06 Skalkaho Pass Ride 2.00 27.3 4,222 Test HR only reached 163, very low for this time of year. Will just go with 158 as At for now, maybe 3 weeks at a lower level will recuperate me. Something is wrong.

06/07/06 Deer Creek Sneak 1.25 16.3 2,519 Unmonitored A ride to see if I can start riding again. I felt very uncomfortable but I think I did no damage. Starting antibiotics tonight.





06/08/06 Thursday Night Ride (Hayes Point) 2.50 10.25 1,754 Monitored Free Ride I got the HR to 172 so that is good news. Still very uncomfortable and also felt the fork was not set up properly and almost caused accidents. It was a really muddy day.





06/10/06 Miller Peak Epic Ride 4.75 50 9,762 Endurance Hard Started out keeping the HR around 145 but as the ride grew on and it became more difficult I was keeping it around 163 for quite a bit of time even maxing out at 170 at times.





06/11/06 Warm Springs MTB Ride 4.00 12.12 1,955 Intervals Went hard for real short periods of times. Mostly this ride was a technical one which increased bike handling skills on the new bike.





06/13/06 Blackfoot River Run (Road Bike) 1.35 25 772 E1 – Recovery The knee is a pain and when I went into the headwind I got a knee cramp. I got very frustrated with the wind last night but my shorts are so uncomfortable I almost ripped them off to ride home naked. The shorts are messing up my season by creating sores on my bottom.

06/15/06 Thursday Night Ride (Rattlesnake) 1.00 6.75 1,200 E1 – Recovery Well ... not recovery. I rode the K2 due to extreme rain and paid the price on the climb. I got my heart rate up for at least 20 minutes solid. Bad Bay!





06/16/06 Georgetown Lake 0.75 5 300 Spin After the trip there needed to get out and pump some blood through the legs. I have a bad rash or hives. Uncomfortable riding.





06/17/06 Pre-Ride Anaconda Race 3.00 16 1,500 Pre-Ride Felt good and ready to go fast. The bottom bracket in my bike may come out.





06/18/06 RACE: (Anaconda MT) 2.00 22 3,000 RACE Blew up 5 minutes after a terrific start. Don't feel right. The race was weak and I felt terrible Definitely a bad race. Lots of re-training to do.

06/21/06 Lolo Ride – Rte 12 2.45 44 800 E2 - Endurance Rode real hard but could not get heart rate up to 145 and keep it there ... very disappointed Over trained ??? Why?





06/22/06 Thursday Night Ride (Woody) 3.50 11.77 3,527 F1 - Hilly Endurance Rode pretty gently. I feel real good in the saddle and the middle ring. Heart rate stayed in a good range although a sprint produced some difficulty. Not back yet!

06/24/06 Mormon Peak Ride 3.50 13 4,133 Race Pace Ride Came out of my slow shell and in to a real fast shell. Climbed comfortably in a middle chain ring A powerful and fast climb. Fell very good!





06/25/06 Coyote Coolie 1.75 8 1,500 E1 – Recovery Felt great stayed in middle ring and felt real comfortable. Technical skills are dialed in as well.

06/27/06 Rainy Day Solution 1.90 21.18 3,376 P3 – Power Did not do too many power ints. Got caught up in the ride and went all out on the descents Was no place to pedal all out.





06/28/06 Lolo Ride – Rte 12 2.50 47 800 E2 - Endurance Had a headwind and felt pretty raw but handles the heart rate (148) beautifully.





06/29/06 Thursday Night Ride (Trail of Tears) 3.25 22.45 4,970 M5 – Muscular Endurance Great workout. Felt apprehensive but all 4 sprints were brutal just the way they should be. I even got my heart rate into the 176s ... outstanding!

Sat 07/01/06 Stewart Peak Trail 2.00 16.5 4,152 A6 – Race Simulation Got to near passing out and had a mini-blow-up. Recovered well and finished strong on top. Killer downhill as my quads were cramping.




Sun 07/02/06 Blue Point Ride 3.80 30.86 7,841 E2 - Endurance Well ... supposed to be a endurance / recovery ride. Endurance it was as I did go anaerobic on some of the toughest climbs. Id not plan on going this far and went overtime. In all felt good and had fun.

Tue 07/04/06 Treasure Ride 1.60 5.11 1,891 E1 – Recovery Can you believe it? Yea, up the climb out of town in a recovery pace although the sun may have fried me. This may have been a bad choice of rides but I needed to get a quick one in. This entire week has been about overage.




Wed 07/05/06 Grant Creek Road Ride 1.60 11.6 134 S4 – Form Sprints Went easy and had a good ride out to Grant Creek.




Thu 07/06/06 Thursday Night Ride (Snow Bowl) 1.50 3 1,502 E1 – Recovery Pouring rain and use that as an excuse to quit after an hour. Got real wet and trashed the bike. Kept the heart rate in rest mode except for the beginning where peer presure got me riled up for about 20 minutes.

Sat 07/08/06 RACE: (Bozeman MT) 3.00 24 4,000 RACE 40K in 1:30 (they mis-timed me). I felt like this was a good race keeping my hr out of the 170+ range for periods longer than a minute or two. I felt like I done well although the results showed that I did really bad at almost 30 minutes behind (they might have mis-timmed me). I was 5th in my age group and 11th overall.




Sun 07/09/06 Sam Braxton Ride 2.00 16 2,400 E1 – Recovery Kept it in the smallest front chain ring and kept it all easy going. Felt pretty good for a day after a race. Found out today that they mis-timed me.

Wed 07/19/06 Lolo Ride – Rte 12 1.00 18 100 E1 – Recovery Rode under 120 to 130 bpm. Nice little spin. One note of importance. I need to get rid of that saddle. It really irritated my bum.
